Business in the Community Awards

National Standard Of Excellence For Community Investment 2010

Business in the Community has awarded Jaguar Land Rover the highly regarded CommunityMark. We are proud to be the first car manufacturer to achieve this award, which is widely recognised as the national standard of excellence for community investment.

Last year we invested a total of £1,250,000 (including in-kind support) in community programmes, including five Education Business Partnership Centres, employee volunteering programmes, national educational initiatives and a wide range of community partnerships.

Over twelve months, 15% of our employees volunteered a total of £256,000 of their time to a variety of educational, environmental and charity projects. We involved 12,600 school children in educational programmes, and gave work experience to nearly 300 young people.

The award is an exceptional external recognition of our considerable investment in the areas surrounding our operating facilities, and the dedication of our people to their communities.

Gold Rating In The Corporate Responsibility Index 2011

Business in the Community has praised Jaguar Land Rover once again for our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. They awarded us an enviable Gold Rating in the Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index. This prestigious accolade reflects our continuing commitment to CR throughout our business operations. What's more, it represents a 10 percentage point increase to our score - from Silver to Gold - in just one year.

The CR Index is the UK's leading voluntary benchmark of Corporate Responsibility. It's a framework that helps companies integrate and improve CR throughout their operations, by providing a systematic approach to managing, measuring and reporting on the impact their business has - both in society and on the environment. A Gold rating is a significant achievement.

Commenting on the award, Mike Wright, Executive Director, Jaguar Land Rover, says "it is very satisfying to see our efforts recognised by Business in the Community." As he notes, "Corporate Social Responsibility has long been a core value for us. It permeates every aspect of our business - from the environmental impact of our products and operations, to engagement with our employees, community groups and nationwide educational establishments."

Environmental Innovation Programme Awarded A National Big Tick

Our ground-breaking Environmental Innovation programme (EI) has been awarded a coveted Big Tick for Environmental Leadership by Business in the Community. The award recognises Jaguar Land Rover's commitment to sustainable products and manufacturing processes, CO2 reductions and improved fuel efficiency, realised through our comprehensive employee engagement initiative. We use the company-wide EI framework to structure, measure and evaluate our efforts to reduce environmental impact and increase efficiency. Established three years ago, EI set out ambitious long term business targets for products and processes, including:

  • 25 per cent reductions in operational CO2, and waste to landfill by 2012
  • 10 per cent reduction in water consumption by 2012
  • 25 per cent reduction in tailpipe emissions by 2015, compared to 2007 levels

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community, congratulated us on achieving the award. "It is a challenging time for business" he said, "but this is a sign that companies are not losing their focus and are transforming their businesses to make a positive impact on people and society and are prepared to lead by example. Jaguar Land Rover has demonstrated to communities and consumers that they are proactive, visible and engaged on the big issues of the day."

Fran Leedham, Head of Sustainability at Jaguar Land Rover, is "delighted" that we've achieved the Big Tick. "We take our sustainability responsibilities very seriously," says Fran, "and it is satisfying to see our commitment rewarded. There have already been significant results, with improved environmental performance of vehicles and progress in achieving our targets. This award will encourage and inspire our employees to continue working hard towards sustainable development."
