APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

schemes

Become an Apprentice at Jaguar Land Rover and you’ll learn from the best. You’ll work on projects that have a real impact on our global success. You’ll also be rewarded as you develop your skills and start on the road to building an impressive career.

There are two routes within the Apprenticeship Scheme; Advanced and Higher. Whether you join us as an Advanced or Higher Apprentice depends on your education level and your interests.

The Advanced Scheme is designed for those who have completed GCSEs and runs for three to four years. The Higher Scheme runs for six years and is split into two business areas: Engineering and Finance (Accountancy). Here, our Engineering pathways are appropriate for those who have completed A-Levels or a BTEC Level 3 in an Engineering or Technology related subject (180 credits with a minimum of a merit award in the maths element). Our Finance (Accountancy) pathway is appropriate for those with 3 A-Levels or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (180 credits) in a relevant Business discipline (graded Distinction/Merit/Merit or higher).

  • Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme

    • OUR ADVANCED APPRENTICE PATHWAYS
      • As an Advanced Apprentice, you’ll have the opportunity to make your mark in pathways such as:
        • Automotive

We’ll also help you develop the ability to use problem-solving skills on robots, logistics, process systems and electrical and mechanical components.
        • Manufacturing Support
In this area, you’ll work to improve our manufacturing techniques and processes, helping us to deliver the highest quality end products to our customers. You’ll gain knowledge of all our vehicle and production techniques, reporting on assembly solutions, standardisation, quality and economic best practice.

FAQ

  • Q: Am I classed as a student?

    • A: From our perspective, you’re a full time employee and will be treated as such. However, please talk with your college about the additional benefits associated with student status.
  • Q: Are travel expenses covered for induction week?

    • A: No, as the venue is classed as your place of work. However, Wolverhampton Apprentices are an exception to this rule during induction week as they will not be at their home college during this time.
  • Q: Is accommodation provided or supported?

    • A: One of the colleges has halls of residence. In addition we have an accommodation officer in place that can provide support.
  • Q: What do I do during college closure times?

    • A: If you don’t have appropriate holiday days accumulated, you’ll have a placement with your home department.
  • Q: Can I choose my pathway?

    • A: We’ll give you an opportunity to state your preferences after outlining your options. Our team then establish the best fit between your aspirations and our business needs. However, if the majority want a certain route we balance this with the business needs that the cohort has been hired for. This means that you may not get your first choice. If we have to choose who gets which position, the people with the highest Assessment Centre score will get the first choices.
  • Q: Can my qualifications be counted towards my apprenticeship and reduce the time I need to qualify?

    • A: Yes. If there’s a sufficient match between your previous qualifications, we’ll look at prior learning accreditation against the pathway you’re aligned to.
  • Q: When will I know which site I’ll be based at?

    • A: That will be an outcome of the pathway you’re aligned to, and will be decided during induction week.
  • Q: If I do not obtain the required qualifications, can you keep the offer open for me next year?

    • A: Unfortunately due to the high number of applications this is not possible. However, if you have progressed through our recruitment process we would strongly recommend you consider re-applying the following year provided you expect to acquire the necessary qualifications.
  • Q: Can I apply to the Higher Apprentice programme at any point or as I complete the Advanced Programme?

    • A: Upon completion of an Advanced Apprenticeship you could discuss this option with your line manager. However the Advanced Programme is not designed as a stepping stone into the Higher Apprenticeship Programme.
  • Q: Can I go to my local college?

    • A: You cannot choose your college as we have built up strong relationships with our learning providers who are focused on meeting our business needs.
  • Q: How can I move up the pay grades?

    • A: You will be assessed periodically throughout your Apprenticeship. If you meet the target criteria you will enjoy incremental increases every 6 months. This will be explained in further detail in your induction.
  • Q: Am I guaranteed a job at the end of the scheme?

    • A: We can’t guarantee you a job. Various factors will be taken into consideration, including your performance on the scheme. However, over the last seven years all of our apprentices have been given an opportunity on completion of their apprenticeship and have taken up positions in the company.
