RAISA, MAINTENANCE APPRENTICE

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP

Think Beyond your limits. There's no need to choose between education and practical skills, because our Advanced Apprenticeship gives you both. You can broaden your mind with brand new concepts at college and put them in to action here at Jaguar Land Rover. One day, you'll be learning about the latest technologies in your field, and the next you'll be actually interacting with them - propelling your experiences beyond other people your age.

And while we open your eyes to the future of automotive technology, giving you a platform to make a real difference to Jaguar Land Rover and our customers, we'll also pay for you to complete several valuable academic and vocational qualifications.

There are 2 pathways in our Advanced Apprentice programme - Manufacturing or Engineering. Whichever pathway you choose you'll learn how to work safely at all times and make a technical contribution to either the design, development, quality assurance, manufacture, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of our products or equipment.

Explore the pathways

Manufacturing

On this pathway you would ensure that plant and equipment perform to the required standard to ensure we meet all our production targets in one of our manufacturing facilities. Typically the work will cover a broad range of activities including installation, testing, fault finding and the on-going planned maintenance of complex automated equipment.

You may also support the installation, testing and commissioning of equipment and contribute to the business by identifying possible opportunities for improving working practices, processes and/or procedures.

Engineering

On this pathway you would primarily work on all stages of product creation and modification. You will support activities ranging from early concept feasibility, design and development stages right through to final preparation for launch and customers. This may include working in concept studios, rapid prototyping, assembly, testing, validating and analysing performance.

You'll produce components and prototypes using a wide range of hand fitting techniques, produce assemblies and rigs using a range of materials and techniques and use mechanical, electrical and electronic testing devices and equipment. You'll also identify, diagnose & rectify design problems as well as contribute to the business by identifying possible opportunities for improving working practices, processes and/or procedures.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

To join the Advanced Apprenticeship scheme you’ll need Maths and English Language GCSE Grade C or above, or Grade 4-9. Additionally, 3 GCSE’s including a Science, Engineering or Technology at Grade C or above or Grad 4-9, or as an alternative, Engineering Vocational qualification Level 3 of 90 credit value (540 GLH).

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) is a four year programme, where you earn whilst you learn.

Your first year will be spent at college as a Jaguar Land Rover employee on full salary learning the engineering basics you'll need in your role with us. Outside of college term times you'll enrich your studies working at a Jaguar Land Rover plant alongside members of our skilled workforce. During your second and third years you'll continue your studies at college on a one to two-day release basis with the constant guidance and support of a Workplace Learning Manager.

Your fourth year will see you complete your end-point assessment and achieve your Level 3 Apprenticeship, ready for an amazing career in a permanent manufacturing or product development role.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

At Jaguar Land Rover, the learning never stops. We believe that life gets better when you learn new skills. That is why we are committed to lifelong learning. We encourage every one of our employees to extend their skills and knowledge through a range of first class programmes.

You can gain any qualification you dare to. These schemes make people’s lives better, enhance careers and are vital in shaping the future of the company.

It is essential that people are curious about things and take their own development seriously, in order to be better equipped to move into different roles, projects or career paths. The value of our people lies in their continued development and in our commitment to invest in their learning and growth in order that they can optimise their performance, whatever their role.

An essential ingredient in our success is the creation of an environment where managers actively share what they are learning and encourage others to grow and where they coach and mentor others to maximise their team’s performance. That’s why we are building The Jaguar Land Rover Learning Academy; a home for lifelong learning. We are creating engaging, relevant and personalised learning content and experiences that can impact personal, team and organisational performance. Here, we are seeking to enable people to learn, create, grow and to support others to do the same; daring each other to embrace the changes and the challenges we face and ensure our future is bright.

REWARDS AND BENEFITS

Your starting salary will be circa £13,000 per year which you will receive even when you're studying at college. Upon completion of the scheme, provided you have performed well you will have achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering alongside a competitive salary. This will give you a brilliant grounding to contribute to Jaguar Land Rover's future.

We'll also pay your tuition and course fees and give you a generous holiday allowance as part of your package. You'll be able to access a range of deals and discounts from various retailers and many of our facilities have their own gyms and sports facilities so you'll have plenty of opportunities to play at the end of the working day.

Maintenance Apprentice

“I chose Jaguar Land Rover because the structured and detailed Apprenticeship programme really appealed to me and my working style.”

I’m a Maintenance Engineer in my second year of the Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Pathway. I was looking at a variety of apprenticeships, but I chose Jaguar Land Rover because they are one of Britain’s largest car manufacturers and the structured and detailed apprenticeship programme really appealed to me and my working style. One of the greatest aspects of being on any of the apprenticeship programmes, is the support you get to succeed. I started with a year at the training provider at Aston, but my development has only increased since being on-site in Solihull.

Design Engineer

“With self-driving vehicles becoming a reality, we’ll be looking at how people will make the most of their time in the car. My job is to continue to design cars that create experiences that customers love.””

As strange as this sounds, I didn’t know much about the world of engineering until a group of Jaguar Land Rover apprentices came into my school to talk about what they do. I was amazed that engineering was really suited to my skillset. And I realised that creative thinking and problem solving are exactly what is needed to do well as an apprentice here. I’ve been here three years now, working as a Design Engineer, and it has been harder than I thought, but the support is incredible. And the network of other apprentices is huge. There’s always someone who will listen to you and so many people you can learn from.

Kenneth
Connected Car Integration Engineer

“I chose Jaguar Land Rover because it’s a Great British Brand and I came here because I wanted to write code.”

It’s so exciting! 5G technology, streams of data and advanced cloud and server based platforms are allowing me to help our cars adapt in the moment to drive efficiency for the customer. Whether that’s predicting when a car needs to warm the seats or start up, or when an engine needs to change performance to match the conditions it’s driving in. Not to mention how we update battery range or infotainment systems in the blink of an eye.
