Come and join JLR as an Automated Test Engineer - Virtual Environments - ADAS!
This role sits within our Electrical Engineering function, as part of the Assisted & Automated Driving Virtual Environment Development team. You’ll be working in a technically strong group responsible for building and maintaining a wide range of XIL test environments, from simple single‑ECU setups through to complex systems involving up to 30 ECUs, using both signal‑based and scenario‑based testing.
As an Automated Test Engineer, you’ll focus on validating real‑time XIL automation solutions that support the testing of assisted and automated driving features across current and future vehicle platforms. You’ll work with modern virtual testing technologies to ensure features are tested thoroughly and consistently, while aligning to recognised industry standards such as ASAM OpenX and ISO 26262.
This is a hands‑on engineering role where you’ll be validating end‑to‑end automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines that underpin how automotive software is tested at scale. It’s a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working close to the technology, solving real problems in complex systems, and contributing to how automated driving software is tested long before it reaches the road.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including –
The role focuses on validating the end‑to‑end test automation framework and CI/CD pipelines used across XIL environments (MIL, SIL and HIL) for assisted and automated driving feature testing.
- Work closely with the XIL Architect to support and validate the overall XIL test automation strategy
- Carry out failure analysis and troubleshooting across CI/CD pipelines and Git during automation framework development
- Develop automated test scripts and executable test scenarios aligned to the deployed automation framework
- Validate and review automatically generated test cases to ensure accuracy, robustness and consistency
- Communicate updates, improvements and changes to the test environment across the wider AAD V&V community, including XIL Execution, System Test, Test Environment and Vehicle Execution teams
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
We’re looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including –
- Strong technical expertise in Python, with experience using it for test automation and scripting
- Good understanding of Assisted and Automated Driving (AAD) features at system, component and software level
- Proven experience in automotive software testing, including scenario‑based testing, design verification and validation
- Working knowledge of vehicle architecture and in‑vehicle networks, including Automotive Ethernet, CAN, LIN and FlexRay
- Experience working across the software development lifecycle, including the use of Git and CI/CD pipelines
- Hands-on experience with automotive test and development tools, such as TRM, JIRA, CANape, CANalyser, CANoe, TestStand, VeriStand, LabVIEW, AutomationDesk and ControlDesk
- Experience working in a Linux environment, with strong root cause analysis and problem‑solving skills
