OPPORTUNITY

 

We are expanding our Battery Current Engineering capability within the JLR Budapest office to support post–Start of Production (SOP) design and release activities for MHEV, PHEV, and BEV battery systems. As a Battery Current Engineering Design & Release Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high‑quality engineering changes, ensuring robust engineering integrity, and maintaining the performance, durability, and compliance of batteries already in production.

 

This role requires strong technical capability, excellent supplier management, and disciplined project execution. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams across JLR and with global suppliers to ensure timely, high‑quality delivery of engineering changes that support quality improvements, regulatory compliance, cost optimisation, and software updates.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

Design & Release Ownership (Post‑SOP)

  • Lead design and release activities for current production battery systems (MHEV, PHEV, BEV).
  • Own the release and implementation of:
    • Quality‑driven engineering changes
    • Supplier initiated post‑Job 1 changes
    • Regulatory and compliance driven updates to battery hardware or software
    • Cost‑down initiatives for post‑SOP products
    • Model year programme changes
  • Manage the full change control process using WERS and iCreate (preferred experience).

 

Engineering Integrity & Technical Governance

  • Ensure all released changes meet JLR engineering integrity requirements, supported by:
    • Test evidence
    • Simulation results
    • Robust validation plans
  • Maintain and update DFMEAs to reflect learning from current quality issues and field performance.
  • Manage supplier control plan cascades to ensure consistent, high-quality production.

 

Issue Management & Alerts

  • Lead the alerts process for any deviation from PSW (Part Submission Warrant) state.
  • Work with suppliers and internal teams to resolve deviations and ensure containment and corrective actions.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including:

  • Battery Development
  • JLR manufacturing plants
  • JLR Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) Teams
  • BMS Engineering
  • HV Systems and MHEV Systems teams
  • Vehicle and Unit Programme teams
  • Quality and Current Quality teams
  • Cell Engineering
  • Test & Validation teams
  • Regulations and Compliance teams
  • Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers

 

Software Change Management

  • The role may require to support software related change management for battery systems, ensuring alignment with hardware changes and regulatory requirements.

 

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

 

Essential:

  • Strong technical knowledge of battery systems, high voltage systems, and battery architecture.
  • Proven experience in Design & Release engineering (WERS and iCreate preferred).
  • Strong supplier management and communication skills.
  • Excellent project management capability with disciplined execution.
  • Experience with DFMEA development and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of engineering integrity requirements, including validation evidence and durability considerations.
  • Ability to interpret and manage supplier control plans.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Self‑motivated, driven, disciplined, and enthusiastic — consistently delivers high‑quality work.

 

Desirable:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in automotive battery development, current engineering, or HV systems.
  • Familiarity with JLR processes, systems, and governance frameworks.
  • Experience working with global suppliers and cross‑functional engineering teams.
