THE OPPORTUNITY
We are expanding our Battery Systems Design & Release capability within the JLR Budapest office to support post-Start of Production (SOP) engineering activities for MHEV, PHEV and BEV battery systems. As a Battery Systems Design & Release Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering changes, ensuring robust engineering integrity, and maintaining the performance, durability and compliance of batteries already in production.
Direct battery Design & Release experience is beneficial but not essential. We are also open to candidates with relevant experience in electrified powertrain, high-voltage or electrical systems, automotive component engineering, quality, manufacturing launch or post-production engineering.
This role requires strong technical capability, effective supplier collaboration and disciplined project execution. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across JLR and with global suppliers to ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of engineering changes that support quality improvements, regulatory compliance, cost optimisation and software updates.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Design & Release Ownership, Post-SOP
- Manage and coordinate design and release activities for current production battery systems, including MHEV, PHEV and BEV applications
- Own the release and implementation of:
- Quality-driven engineering changes
- Supplier-initiated post-Job 1 changes
- Regulatory and compliance-driven updates to battery hardware or software
- Cost-down initiatives for post-SOP products
- Model year programme changes
- Manage the engineering change-control process using JLR systems. Previous experience with WERS, iCreate or equivalent change-management and release tools would be beneficial, but training can be provided
Engineering Integrity & Technical Governance
- Work with technical specialists and cross-functional teams to ensure released changes meet JLR engineering integrity requirements and are supported by appropriate test evidence, simulation results and validation plans
- Maintain and update DFMEAs to reflect learning from current quality issues and field performance
- Work with suppliers, quality and manufacturing teams to review and implement relevant updates to supplier control plans, supporting consistent and high-quality production
Issue Management & Alerts
- Own and coordinate the alerts process for deviations from the approved PSW (Part Submission Warrant) state, working with suppliers and relevant internal teams
- Work with suppliers and internal teams to resolve deviations and ensure appropriate containment and corrective actions
Software Change Management
- The role may also involve supporting software-related change management for battery systems, ensuring alignment with hardware changes and regulatory requirements
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Essential
- Relevant technical knowledge or experience in battery systems, high-voltage or electrical systems, electrified powertrain, automotive component engineering, or a comparable technical field
- Experience in design and release, product development, engineering change management, systems engineering, component engineering, production support or a closely related engineering activity
- Strong supplier management and communication skills
- Ability to plan, coordinate and deliver engineering activities against agreed timing, quality and technical requirements
- Practical experience with engineering quality tools or structured problem-solving methods, such as DFMEA, FMEA, 8D, APQP or equivalent
- Ability to review technical evidence, validation results and product risks to support robust engineering decisions
- Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional teams to resolve technical, quality or production issues
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Self-motivated, driven, disciplined and enthusiastic, with a consistent commitment to delivering high-quality work
Desirable
- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant industry experience
- Experience in automotive battery development, high-voltage systems, electrified powertrain or electrical systems
- Experience supporting products after Start of Production, including engineering changes, quality improvements or production issues
- Experience with DFMEA, control plans, APQP, PPAP, PSW, 8D or equivalent automotive quality processes
- Experience with manufacturing introduction, production launch or production-quality improvement
- Experience with engineering release or change-management systems. Familiarity with WERS, iCreate or equivalent tools would be an advantage, but is not essential
- Familiarity with JLR processes, systems and governance frameworks
- Experience working with global suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams
