This role is responsible for the discovery, interpretation, decomposition and deployment of charging regulations, standards and compliance requirements across JLR's Energy Platform. Working within the Charging Core organisation, the role ensures regulatory obligations are identified early, translated into engineering requirements and fully traceable through implementation and validation.


The position operates across Charging, Energy Storage, ESMS, HV Distribution, Vehicle Architecture, Functional Safety, EMC and wider Product Engineering teams to ensure charging requirements are compliant, robust and aligned with current and future global market expectations.


As a key member of the Charging Core team, this role contributes to the development of future charging platforms by ensuring charging legislation, certification requirements, grid regulations and industry standards are anticipated, understood and embedded into platform architectures at the earliest stages of development.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Discover, analyse and interpret global charging regulations, standards, certification requirements and industry guidance.
  • Translate charging legislation and standards into system requirements, architectures, interfaces and validation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain compliance frameworks, requirement hierarchies and traceability models across Charging Core systems.
  • Identify technical dependencies, compliance impacts and implementation requirements across Charging, Energy Storage, ESMS, HV Distribution and vehicle systems.
  • Support the definition and governance of charging requirements covering AC charging, DC charging, bidirectional charging, Plug & Charge and charging communications.
  • Develop compliance matrices ensuring complete traceability from regulation to implementation, verification and homologation evidence.
  • Analyse emerging charging technologies, infrastructure developments, regulatory trends and market expectations to understand future platform impacts.
  • Define and maintain regulatory and standards roadmaps covering charging technologies, communication protocols, grid integration and future compliance requirements.
  • Support compliance assessments and gap analysis activities to identify regulatory risks, opportunities and implementation priorities.
  • Collaborate with architects and system engineers to ensure charging standards and compliance requirements are correctly allocated within platform architectures.
  • Support Design Authority reviews by providing standards interpretation, regulatory guidance and compliance recommendations.
  • Develop validation strategies and compliance evidence frameworks supporting certification, homologation and regulatory approval activities.
  • Monitor and influence charging standards, legislation and industry direction through active engagement with standards organisations, regulatory authorities, market operators.
  • Build and maintain professional networks with standards organisations, regulatory authorities, certification bodies and industry working groups to anticipate future changes and influence industry direction.
  • Engage with organisations such as IEC, ISO, SAE, CharIN, national standards bodies, regulatory agencies and charging industry forums to maintain awareness of evolving requirements.
  • Maintain Systems Engineering documentation, compliance records and traceability artefacts supporting governance, audit readiness and certification activities.
  • Capture lessons learnt and continuously improve charging compliance processes, methodologies and engineering practices across future programmes.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Essential:

 

  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong understanding of charging systems, charging infrastructure and Electrified Propulsion architectures.
  • Knowledge of global charging standards and regulations including ISO 15118, IEC 61851, CCS, NACS, GB/T, CHAdeMO and related compliance requirements.
  • Experience analysing, interpreting and decomposing regulations, standards and certification requirements into engineering deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of global charging ecosystems, standards development processes and regulatory governance frameworks.
  • Strong requirements engineering, traceability and compliance management skills.
  • Experience applying Systems Engineering and MBSE methodologies to complex engineering systems.
  • Understanding of charging communications, Plug & Charge, bidirectional charging and vehicle-to-grid technologies.
  • Knowledge of EMC, electrical safety, Functional Safety and cybersecurity requirements applicable to charging systems.
  • Experience creating compliance evidence, validation strategies and certification support documentation.
  • Ability to identify and manage cross-functional technical and regulatory dependencies.
  • Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving and technical communication skills.
  • Experience working with stakeholders across engineering, compliance and certification functions.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with standards organisations, regulatory authorities and industry stakeholders to influence and interpret evolving legislative requirements.


Desired:

 

  • Experience using MBSE toolsets and systems modelling methodologies.
  • Experience with MSOSA, SysML or similar architecture frameworks.
  • Familiarity with DIN 70121, OCPP, IEC 63110 and grid-code related standards.
  • Experience supporting homologation, certification or regulatory approval activities.
  • Understanding of ISO 26262, ISO 21434, IEC 61851, IEC 62196, ISO 15118 and related charging standards.
  • Knowledge of ACER requirements, ENTSO-E grid codes and emerging smart charging regulations.
  • Knowledge of emerging charging technologies including Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS).
  • Experience performing compliance audits, regulatory impact assessments and standards gap analysis.
  • Experience participating in industry standards forums, technical committees or regulatory working groups focused on charging technologies and grid integration.
  • Experience working with standards committees, industry associations, charging infrastructure organisations or regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledge of automotive product development and engineering release processes.
