We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join our Exterior Trim team to work on future vehicles, designing components and/or systems that form part of the Exterior Trim, iincluding Bumpers, Underbody Trim and Ornamentation.
You will work as part of a team focussed on a future vehicle and will work to create robust designs that are feasible to produce and meet the functional requirements of the part or systems as well as meeting the cost, quality and time targets. You will have to work closely with Engineers of a variety of different parts as well Engineers responsible for the attributes of the car as well as working with others from Design, Manufacutring and our suppliers.

- Develop a virtual CAD concept for components and systems that meets all applicable component, system and vehicle level requirements
- Resolve geometrical problems, proactively coming up with ideas and solutions
- Robustly create CAD models using surface modelling techniques that is robust to subsequent changes
- Ensure that all parts have a high level of feasibility, considering all applicable manufacturing processes and functional requirements of the part
- Continually consider how the part can be optimised, improving the design through iterations to reduce the cost and weight of the part
- Manage the BOM for the parts and systems including formal releases
- When required, complete virtual engineering sign off through CAD checks, creating clearly written test reports of all virtual tests
- Mentor other CAD Engineers to improve the skills and experience of the team
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, there are several skills that you’ll need to have to help you succeed here, including:
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred / Relevant apprenticeship or equivalent experience preferred
- Excellent robust CAD modelling skills
- Expert at using wireframe and surfaces to create robust and parametric models.
- Good knowledge of a variety of different manufacturing techniques used for producing Exterior Trim components, including injection moulding, compression moulding and stamping
- Expert knowledge of feasibility considerations for injection moulded parts
- Strong capability in using a range of Virtual Engineering tools in CATIA V5 or CATIA V6
- Ability to interpret Engineering standards and requirements and implement these into the geometrical form of the part and system
- Experience of solving complex problems in a fast-paced environment
- Technical and practical knowledge of integrating components into vehicles
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently and proactively, taking full ownership and responsibility for own work; fully invested in achieving a successful result
- You view things as a team rather than individual project level, considering the wider team needs
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills, including ability to manage/lead/support xxx relationships and communicate effectively at all levels
