JOB TITLE: EDS CAD Design Engineer

THE OPPORTUNITY


The successful candidate will be working within Digital Product Platform (DPP) - EDS and be responsible for the CAD Packaging & Integration design activities of electrical components and harnesses for the next generation of electrical architecture. Applying GRID (optimised component layout for EDS cost & weight and function), delivering the highest quality to our customers through Engineering in a cost-effective way, delivering engineering value and great customer experience. An exciting opportunity that entails interacting and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Body, Chassis, Manufacturing, Vehicle Engineering, Program and Design, awaits.


In this position, the engineer must be capable of delivering a geometric design and module integration that complies with all design requirements and integrated into the surrounding vehicle environment and optimized layout for cost/weight and function.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Support cross functional teams in design development
  • Create compatible package solutions for Electrical components and harnesses in accordance with company Bill of Design (BoD), Bill of Process (BoP), Design for Manufacture (DFM) and quality standards
  • Engage in VAVE (Engineering Value Added) activities
  • Support DV and FMEA activities
  • Support design clarifications with 2D CAD team
  • Support design clarifications with supplier
  • Secure packaging sign-off from all stakeholders
  • Coordinate, present and report design feasibility, and status at reviews. Use escalation process when required
  • Support and resolve any package issues arising from manufacturing virtual and physical builds
  • Work in squads supporting the Product Owner within the Agile framework and use JIRA to track workload and priorities whilst support AGILE ceremonies
  • Creation and maintenance of Electrical Design Solutions (DS’s) EBOM or Engineering Items (EI’s) UBOM using agreed CAD methods and processes
  • Support with scoring and status metric of CAD data progression using VEPS tool against virtual gateways
  • Support the delivery of the EDS commodity including geometry, cost, weight, quality, and functional performance

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

 

Essential:

 

  • Engineering degree (or equivalent)
  • Proficient in Dassault CAD systems
  • Ability to interpret 2D sketch into 3D digital form in both surface and solid model using parametric techniques.
  • Knowledge of SDS and DFM requirements
  • Aware of available channels to initiate design negotiations with other COC stakeholders
  • Across functional collaboration to solve complex geometric issues and influence decisions
  • Experience of presenting effectively to all levels of the business
  • Function as a subject matter expert for all CAD matters

 

Desirable:

 

  • Knowledge in Agile methodology
  • Understanding Knowledge of Jaguar and Land Rover release systems or experience of a relevant technical area
  • Awareness of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)
  • Knowledge in JLR DT database
  • Aware of JLR Clear Plan
  • Be able to produce concept Brackets, Plastic Formers, Rubber Grommets and fixing scheme designs
  • Knowledge of VEPS maturity specification
