This is an exciting time to become part of JLR history as we shape our future electrified portfolio and deliver the Energy Platform Core from the ground up in a modular and scalable way. The platform will be fully configurable to meet vehicle programme requirements, establishing robustness through reuse and repeatable best-practice designs across all applications.
This leadership position is responsible for the system architecture and engineering definition of JLR's Energy Storage Core platform, utilising modern Systems Engineering and MBSE methodologies to enable early concept development, simulation, validation and architectural optimisation before programme application activities commence.
The role is accountable for governing the HV Energy Storage Architecture, including battery system performance, usable battery energy, power capability, thermal behaviour, electrical integrity, durability, safety, sustainability and lifecycle performance. The role also ensures that battery system requirements, interfaces and architectures support global regulatory requirements, certification objectives and future technology roadmaps.
The vision is to develop a modular and scalable Energy Storage Platform that enables seamless integration across JLR's four distinctive brands: Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar. The role will therefore operate across vehicle programmes to ensure a common battery philosophy, architecture and set of reusable solutions are consistently applied across all Electrified Propulsion products.
The Energy Storage Core team works closely with Charging, ESMS, HV Distribution, Vehicle Architecture, Thermal Systems and wider Product Engineering teams to ensure battery system requirements, interfaces and behaviours are fully integrated within the vehicle platform. Forecasting, developing and implementing customer attributes, regulatory requirements, certification strategies and future battery technology roadmaps will be a key contributor to the department's success.
As a key system leader in the energy platform system, the role leads to technical discussions, architecture reviews and cross-functional decision-making activities, ensuring that Energy Storage concepts, requirements, compliance strategies and architectural changes are robustly assessed, governed and implemented. The role is also responsible for resolving cross-domain technical conflicts and driving rapid, high-quality engineering decisions that support both programme delivery and long-term platform strategies.
The Core Energy Storage Manager leads a team of highly skilled architects, system engineers and technical specialists, developing capability, fostering collaboration and promoting a culture of technical excellence, accountability and systems thinking.
This role provides an exceptional opportunity to influence the future direction of battery technologies at JLR and lead the development of world-class Energy Storage system architectures that deliver outstanding customer experiences, regulatory compliance, sustainability and platform reusability.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Define and govern the HV Energy Storage system architecture, ensuring scalable and reusable battery platform solutions across BEV and PHEV applications through collaboration with EP Core and Vehicle Platform teams.
- Use MBSE methodologies, such as MSOSA, to model, develop and maintain Energy Storage architectures, functions and interfaces, identifying key dependencies, constraints and integration requirements across the Electrified Propulsion system.
- Identify cross-functional technical dependencies to facilitate arbitration of interfaces, dependencies and technical trade-offs between Energy Storage, Charging, ESMS, HV Distribution, Thermal Systems and wider vehicle systems.
- Establish and govern Energy Storage requirements, models, interface definitions and validation strategies, ensuring traceability, consistency and compliance with EP Core systems engineering standards.
- Lead the development and deployment of Energy Storage concepts and strategies covering battery performance, usable battery energy (UBE), power capability, thermal behaviour, charging capability, durability, ageing and lifecycle performance.
- Drive the development and continuous improvement of Energy Storage methodologies, engineering processes, architecture governance and MBSE practices to enable robust and efficient platform delivery.
- Lead Energy Storage Design Authority activities, ensuring architecture decisions, technical changes, compliance strategies and platform evolution are robustly assessed, documented and governed.
- Lead certification, homologation and compliance activities, ensuring battery systems support global legislation, industry standards, safety requirements and emerging regulatory frameworks.
- Support vehicle programme application teams by ensuring successful deployment of Energy Storage architectures, requirements and system behaviours across all vehicle lines.
- Provide technical leadership and develop a team of highly skilled architects and system engineers, fostering technical excellence, accountability and systems thinking.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Vehicle Architecture, Charging, ESMS, HV Distribution, Thermal Systems and Product Engineering teams to deliver integrated system solutions.
- Collaborate with Compliance, Homologation, Functional Safety, Cybersecurity, Sustainability and Validation teams to ensure Energy Storage architectures support future technology roadmaps and business objectives.
- Engage with suppliers, industry partners and standards organisations to influence battery technologies, improve platform capability and maximise the reuse of best-practice solutions.
- Promote a culture of rapid, data-driven decision-making whilst ensuring stakeholders remain aligned, informed and engaged on key architectural decisions and platform strategies.
- Drive JLR standards, ensuring robust system design, development, integration and compliane throughout the Energy Storage domain.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Essential:
- Advanced systems engineering and architecture knowledge across HV Battery Systems and Electrified Propulsion systems.
- Ability to successfully interact with stakeholders who may have conflicting technical or programme priorities.
- Experience applying MBSE, requirements management and validation methodologies to complex systems.
- Strong understanding of battery technologies, Energy Storage architectures, vehicle integration and performance optimisation.
- Knowledge of battery regulations, certification, homologation, sustainability requirements, electrical safety and functional safety.
- Proven technical leadership, stakeholder management, conflict resolution and team development skills.
- Strong communication and effective reporting skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to lead and develop a large systems engineering organisation.
- Strong business and commercial acumen covering strategy development, supplier engagement and technical decision-making.
- Experience building, guiding and developing high-performing engineering teams.
