This role is responsible for the development of Charging Core system architectures, requirements, models and validation artefacts using modern Systems Engineering and MBSE methodologies. Working within the Energy Platform organisation, the role supports the definition and deployment of charging technologies, standards and regulatory requirements across JLR's Electrified Propulsion portfolio.


The position operates across Energy Storage, Energy Management, HV Distribution and Vehicle Architecture teams to ensure charging systems are robust, compliant, reusable and fully integrated within the wider vehicle platform.


As a key member of the Charging Core team, this role contributes to the development of future charging technologies, charging standards, compliance strategies and system architectures that deliver excellent customer experiences whilst meeting the evolving technical, commercial and regulatory needs of global markets.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Develop Charging Core system architectures, requirements and behavioural models using Systems Engineering and MBSE methodologies.
  • Translate vehicle and feature requirements into Charging Core requirements, logical architectures, physical architectures and validation artefacts.
  • Assess technical constraints, dependencies and opportunities to optimise charging system architectures and vehicle integration.
  • Develop and maintain charging system requirements, test methods and validation strategies, ensuring complete traceability from requirement to verification.
  • Support the development of charging concepts covering AC charging, DC charging, bidirectional charging, charging communications and charging power management.
  • Generate and maintain Core System artefacts including SRDs, SAADs, interface definitions, functional architectures and system documentation.
  • Develop validation methods and test cases covering normal operation, fault scenarios and customer usage conditions across all charging functions.
  • Analyse, interpret and deploy global charging standards, market requirements, legislation and regulatory changes into Charging Core requirements and architectures.
  • Support compliance activities relating to charging regulations, homologation requirements, EMC legislation, electrical safety and Functional Safety objectives.
  • Contribute to charging technology roadmaps by evaluating emerging charging standards, infrastructure developments and market trends.
  • Support Design Authority activities by preparing technical evidence, architecture proposals and system recommendations.
  • Work closely with Energy Storage, ESMS, HV Distribution, Vehicle Architecture and Thermal Systems teams to resolve technical issues and architectural dependencies.
  • Support issue resolution and change management activities using structured engineering approaches including AIMS and 8D methodologies.
  • Maintain Systems Engineering documentation and configuration management records to support traceability, compliance and quality objectives.
  • Support supplier engagement, technical reviews and requirement clarification throughout product development activities.
  • Capture lessons learnt and continuously improve charging architectures, engineering processes and validation methodologies across future programmes.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED


Essential:

 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong understanding of charging systems, High Voltage vehicle systems and Electrified Propulsion architectures.
  • Experience developing system requirements, logical architectures and physical architectures for complex engineering systems.
  • Strong requirements authoring, decomposition and validation development skills.
  • Experience applying Systems Engineering and MBSE methodologies to complex products and technologies.
  • Good understanding of AC charging, DC charging, charging communications and bidirectional charging technologies.
  • Knowledge of global charging standards and regulations including CCS, ISO 15118, IEC 61851, GB/T, NACS and associated compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with charging certification, homologation and global market requirements.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety principles and ISO 26262 application within Electrified Propulsion systems.
  • Experience integrating complex multi-ECU systems within automotive, aerospace or transportation applications.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, technical communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage technical delivery against programme timing, quality and functionality objectives.
  • Experience using FMEA, fault analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.

 

Desired:

 

  • Experience using MSOSA and MBSE toolsets.
  • Experience creating FFA, LAD, SAAD and SRD architectural artefacts.
  • Knowledge of SysML and model-based architecture development.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, HiL, SiL and vehicle-level validation environments.
  • Familiarity with AIMS, APQP, TVM and Design Release processes.
  • Understanding of Plug & Charge, V2G, V2H and V2X technologies.
  • Experience interpreting charging legislation and standards across multiple global regions.
  • Knowledge of emerging charging technologies, Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS) and future charging infrastructure trends.
  • Experience working with suppliers and technology partners.
  • Product development experience from concept through to production.
