JOB TITLE: Junior EDS 3D CAD Design Engineer

THE OPPORTUNITY

 

The successful candidate will be working within Digital Product Platform (DPP) - EDS and be responsible for the CAD Packaging & Integration design activities of electrical components and harnesses for the next generation of electrical architecture. Applying GRID (optimised component layout for EDS cost & weight and function), delivering the highest quality to our customers through Engineering in a cost-effective way, delivering engineering value and great customer experience. An exciting opportunity that entails interacting and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Body, Chassis, Manufacturing, Vehicle Engineering, Program and Design, awaits. In this position, the engineer must be capable of delivering a geometric design and module integration that complies with all design requirements and integrated into the surrounding vehicle environment and optimized layout for cost/weight and function. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Design DFM/DFA compliant wiring harness geometry in 3DExperience
  • Create and maintain Wiring harness CAD Assemblies in BOM or EBOM using agreed CAD methods and processes
  • Take full ownership of the wiring harness design throughout the whole development process from initial concept to vehicle launch
  • Support Design Validation and FMEA activities
  • Work in squads supporting the Product Owner within the Agile framework and use JIRA to track workload and priorities while participating in AGILE ceremonies
  • Support cross-functional teams in design development
  • Create compatible package solutions for Electrical components and harnesses in accordance with company Bill of Design (BoD), Bill of Process (BoP), Design for Manufacture (DFM) and quality standards
  • Collaborate closely with the 2D Drawing team during manufacturing drawing creation
  • Perform design validation with wiring harness suppliers
  • Secure packaging sign-off from all stakeholders
  • Coordinate, present and report design feasibility and status at reviews using escalation process when required
  • Support and resolve any packaging issues arising from manufacturing team during virtual and physical builds
  • Track and progress CAD data maturity levels against project gateways
  • Support the delivery of the EDS commodity, including geometry, cost, weight, quality, and functional
    performance

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

 

 Essential:

 

  • Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) 
  • Strong communication skills
  • Understanding of complex systems (Circuit, 3D CAD, 2D, etc.) 
  • Proficiency in 3DExperience/Catia
  • Ability to interpret circuit information and 2D drawings into 3D digital form using the Electrical Workbench
  • Knowledge of automotive standards and DFM requirements
  • Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally to solve complex geometric issues and influence decisions
  • Experience presenting effectively to all levels of the business
  • Motivation and drive to help develop new processes
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of the ECR (Engineering Change Request) process

 

Desirable:

 

  • Knowledge of Agile methodology
  • Work experience in the automotive field
  • Understanding of automotive release systems or experience in a relevant technical area
  • Awareness of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)
  • Awareness of JLR‑specific processes
  • Ability to produce concept brackets, plastic formers, rubber grommets, and fixing‑scheme designs in both surface and solid models using parametric techniques
