OPPORTUNITY
This role is within the Lids department within Vehicle Platforms as an Mechatronics Engineer, supporting the delivery of this commodity on a single vehicle programme with specific responsibility for leading the development of Closures Mechanisms on a new vehicle product throughout the virtual phase into the physical build phase and launch.
The role will focus on engineering delivery of these components into production, ensuring delivery of work on time to support the builds and program milestones. You’ll be responsible for delivery of the engineering for this commodity meaning managing the prioritisation of work, Cost, Weight, Timing, Releasing and Validation. Working to resolve issues as they arise in a collaborative manner with your squad as well as the wider cross-functional team.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Contribute to ensure delivery of the squad targets specifically for quality, cost and time
- Work with and support a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate technical concepts, features and alternatives and develop production releases
- Work within a cross-functional team to ensure robust delivery. Develop the team through the engineering, sourcing and delivery of components for vehicle programs on time, quality and cost
- Meet operational targets created in the strategy phase to ensure they can be delivered robustly
- Build, maintain and manage relationships with internal and external suppliers and stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and optimisation of module component costs, investment, vendor tooling and design and development
- Develop and deliver the test plan, confirm parts availability for all stages and ensure cross-functional requirements are integrated in module development
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Essential:
- Experience in automotive components and/or systems, with associated sourcing and delivery of components for vehicle programs
- Strong understanding of system architecture for mechatronic subsystems (sensors, actuators, ECUs, networks).
- Practical experience with CAN and LIN networks
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred / Relevant apprenticeship or equivalent experience preferred.
- Skilled in mechatronic commodities with demonstratable understanding of kinematics, electronically controlled drive units and actuators
- Familiarity with automotive development processes such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, 8D
- Communicate with clarity, empathy, and influence; able to connect across all levels of the organisation and foster trusted partnerships.
- Balancing business and technology priorities while working towards the wider team’s goals.
- Lead with integrity, fully owning your work, acting with initiative, and staying committed to delivering high-quality standards with purpose.
Desirable:
- Ability to define and manage system requirements, interface specifications, and integration constraints.
- Experience with systems modelling (e.g., SysML, MBSE, functional architecture tools).
- Understanding of embedded control systems, including PWM motor control and H‑bridge drivers
- Knowledge of embedded software architecture, including:
- State machines
- Bootloaders
- Low‑level drivers
- Safety monitoring
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, harness drawings, and PCB layouts
- Ability to use MATLAB/Simulink for behavioural modelling of actuators
- Knowledge of locking systems, closure mechanisms, or other safety‑critical mechatronic commodities
- Experience creating and executing system‑level DVPs for ECUs and electromechanical actuators.
