JOB TITLE: Model-Based System Engineer

This role is responsible for Creating and developing Features and Capabilities for JLR Propulsion systems from the Functional Layer team in Hardware system integration department using a system engineering model base approach in the logical and physical solution domain.


You will be responsible for creating and owning the generic system artifacts supporting the new functions for new and existing Powertrain propulsion concepts in the xHEV Diesel/Gasoline MHEV/PHEV (it may include BEV applications when common) space ensuring they are legally compliant, meets customer attributes expectations and are competitive in the market.

  • New functions delivered by statement of capability (SOC) and/or Feature statement of intent (FSOI) process. Starting from the Idea creation and making sure of its application in the program architecture.
  • System artifacts (MBSE models, use case analysis, decision tree, LAD, FFA/DFMEA/DRBFM, DVP, requirements, standards) developed off-cycle and updated on-cycle as required.
  • Robust requirements and targets delivered on-cycle to programmes.
  • Robust design of Test cases and when the application is innovative, ability to design experiments (DoE) methods and technical studies to confirm targets.
  • Lead the analysis of complex data from CAE and physical test properties.
  • System compatibility Issues identified, reported and efficiently resolved.
  • Ensure functions adherence to the use of specified engineering methods, computer tools and aids applied.
  • Support indirect team members understanding of the feature or capability with your expert knowledge.
  • Participate and Chair when necessary technical reviews/forums and resolve complex cross functional issues.

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

 

Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, there are several skills that you’ll need to have to help you succeed here, including:

 

Essential:

  • Relevant experience of working in a Systems Engineering environment - ideally within the Automotive Sector.
  • Expertise in Propulsion/Powertrain Engineering in: Emissions-After-treatment/Gas-path and knowledge on in Base engines, HV Systems/Batteries, Torque and Energy Arbitration.
  • xHEV and/or BEV propulsion system integration.
  • Relevant experience of system definition, system architecture development, requirements specification, design/performance modelling, systems integration, system assessment and acceptance.
  • Experience in applying Systems Engineering and in solving complex technical issues using a structured approach.
  • Relevant experience in development of electrified propulsion system as MHEV, PHEV and/or BEV.
  • Relevant calibration and control exposure in propulsion system.
  • Experience in model base system engineering and/or any tool for Systems Architecting.
  • Experience and exposure to CAE on vehicle, propulsion and sub-systems.
  • Experience in defining Test cases and DoE for HIL, PIL, VIL and vehicle environment.
  • Capable of complex data analytics from CAE and physical testing, mathematical projection, estimation, walk generation. (complexes excel macro/database, Matlab, MDA, Concerto).
  • Good understanding of 8D issue resolution and data statistics 6 sigma methods.
  • Familiarity with Product Creation Development System [PCDS] which could be delivered via Agile Groups / Squads.
  • Significant knowledge of engineering planning and delivery processes.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred.


Desirable:

  • Expert experience beyond Emissions, After-treatment, Gas-path in the specific area of: Base engines, HV Systems, Torque and Energy Arbitration.
  • Relevant calibration and control exposure in propulsion system.
  • Experience of Magic System/TRM of Systems Architect.
  • CAE experience on vehicle and propulsion sub-systems with exposure to Simulink modelling.
