THE OPPORTUNITY

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS OPPORTUNITY IS A FIXED TERM EMPLOYMENT FOR A PERIOD OF 2 YEARS!

 

Working with a cross functional team you will be responsible for ensuring the Supplier Readiness and ramp up of the Supply Chain. The role will support the STA vision of driving manufacturing excellence into the supply base and will require a mixture of strategic, operational, and tactical activities.

 

The STA New Model Launch Engineer role requires frequent travel to supplier sites UK, Europe and Worldwide as required. The main responsibilities of the role are as below: 

 

  • Carry out supplier facility assessments to ensure operational, technical and resource capabilities meet JLR minimum standards as part of our Strategy evaluation and sourcing selection process.
  • Working with the Engineering, Procurement and Supply Chain Design Teams to identify and evaluate future Supply Chains for new Technologies.
  • Lead the implementation of STA owned deliverables in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Launch activities and Phased Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Ensure flawless program launch and prevent any disruptions at JLR assembly plants during new vehicle launch.
  • Act as a liaison between Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and to provide technical support where required.
  • The role should support the STA vision of driving manufacturing excellence into the supply base of the given components and will require a mixture of operational, tactical and strategic activities.

 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Through active membership of Commodity Teams, represent STA in supplier new part development and introduction to support delivery of excellent quality and on time launch of JLR vehicle projects.
  • Maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholder and suppliers’ representatives to ensure PSW Quality and delivery targets are met, and all supplier manufacturing process related issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Conduct potential supplier diagnostic for assigned commodity and provide STA recommendation to support future strategies and future sourcing of Suppliers.
  • Create risk mitigation actions and drive reduction of risks to ensure flawless on-time launch of new products.
  • Working closely with the Global Commodity Lead and the Supply Chain Design team to evaluate Supply Chain Design concept options to ensure optimised solution is selected for contract.
  • Collaborate with Supplier and Product Engineering to ensure design for manufacture considerations are built into the part and process design.
  • Identify new processes and methodologies for confirming Supplier Readiness in the new technologies.
  • Support project team reviews as required to ensure STA related actions are resolved accordingly within each sprint cycle and avoidance of any related obstacles is achieved.
  • Develop the new suppliers. Ensure supplier understanding of product, engineering specification, quality, program timing and submission requirement through the required e-system or process.
  • Support APQP reviews as required, attend or lead regular supplier program meeting and assist in the implementation and monitoring of APQP with responsible suppliers.
  • Review and assure supplier set up of robust manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Review and approve tool, fixture, part design, supplier Plant Layout, Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, Process Control Plan, and hence ensuring the delivery of the plan to achieve PPAP.
  • Review and approve supplier production ‘run at rate’ , part dimension measurement, material and functional tests, process capability studies, PPAP submission and CAR (capacity analysis report).
  • Assure tier 1 supplier has controls and management in place on sub - tier suppliers through deployment of JLR Tier- N Management process.
  • Regularly exchange information with others inside and outside the work group, including JLR and supplier facilities.
  • Program launch quality and delivery performance monitoring, communication, risk identification and escalation to drive correction before impacting JLR facilities.

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED


Essential:

 

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering gained at engineer or management level
  • A proven leadership track record in a manufacturing or technical environment
  • Broad experience of managing external stakeholder and supplier relationship management
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship management skills and experience
  • Able to manage and execute complex projects on time and within budget
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to converse at all levels of the organisation and with external suppliers/customers


Desirable:

 

  • Engineering background
  • A technical knowledge and experience in the industrialisation of the manufacturing systems and project management (consider is thin essesential)
