SUPPLIER MANUFACTURING ENGINEER 

 

For new model programs this role will evaluate and manage risks associated with our external suppliers value stream design through sourcing and its subsequent facility, manufacturing systems and production processes industrialisation.

 

You will interact with Product Engineering, Purchasing, MP&L, Manufacturing, STA and equivalent roles within external Suppliers in order to support the NML engineer as a matched pair to deliver PSW to JLR requirements.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

 

The role requires a factory focused approach, you will support the APQP process, use the commodity plans to confirm supplier product delivery plans and collaborate with the supplier to identify and develop solutions to mitigate risks throughout the industrialisation and launch phases.

 

The supplier manufacturing engineer will confirm facility readiness,  manufacturing systems and production processes have the installed capacity and potential to sustain operational efficiencies through launch and into series production.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

 

  • Manage and ensure the Supplier facility and process design concept will meet capacity requirements and future flexibility for peak volumes
  • Continually challenge supplier performance for new model facilities, manufacturing systems and production processes which supply parts into our vehicle plants
  • Lead the creation and development of risk mitigation actions, drive supplier resilience to ensure flawless on-time launch of new products
  • Collaborate with Supplier and Product Engineering to ensure design for manufacture considerations are built into the part and process design
  • Manage the evaluation of the Supplier production preparation plan to ensure it meets the cross functional commodity plan key milestones
  • Collaborate with suppliers in the creation of robust Supply Chain Design concepts for new products and processes (SCDD) and manage the Evaluation of these concept options to ensure optimised solutions
  • Lead the identification of all potential Supply Chain risks through robust due diligence of manufacturing and logistics feasibility studies
  • Develop productive relationships with internal stakeholder and supplier’s representatives  to ensure APQP Deliverables are achieved


WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering gained at engineer or management level
  • Extensive knowledge and practical deployment of Lean tools and demonstrated experience in process/value stream mapping
  • Analytical skills to break down complex, multidimensional problems or processes and drive improvement ideas from concept to reality
  • Ability to evaluate capacity at a facility and work station level
  • Risk and change management skills
  • Broad experience of managing external stakeholders and supplier relationship management
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Fluent in English
     

Desirable

 

  • Experience working in a high volume manufacturing operations environment
  • An individual who is able to apply analytical rigour to develop and drive well thought out operational plans, collaborate across functions and combine a short term, pragmatic focus with strategic vision
  • An understanding of key automotive tools and techniques to include APQP, PPAP, 8D, Practical Problem Solving, Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma
