In Global Manufacturing Engineering at JLR, you’ll help turn bold design concepts into world class, customer ready luxury vehicles. As a Dimensional Metrology Strategy Engineer, you’ll help define and deliver the measurement capability that underpins JLR’s Modern Luxury vision. From developing enterprise standards to supporting plants and trialling next generation technologies, this role offers the opportunity to influence long term strategy while gaining hands on experience with cutting edge tools and systems.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This role sits at the centre of JLR’s dimensional quality capability, combining strategic development with practical engineering support.
You’ll contribute to enterprise standards, support manufacturing plants, analyse metrology capability, and help shape future measurement technologies. Working cross functionally and cross site, you’ll support both current production requirements and long term strategy development. Key activities include:
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of enterprise metrology standards, including measurement HTGs, CMS programming standards and fixture MSA requirements
- Providing metrology support to manufacturing plants, helping diagnose measurement issues, identify root causes and deploy standardised solutions
- Carrying out offline metrology capacity and capability analysis, identifying constraints and supporting investment and resource planning decisions
- Supporting metrology software modernisation activities, including providing technical input, testing, documentation and support for digital data flows
- Assisting in defining metrology hardware requirements, including Model Plant Bill of Control documentation and right sizing of capability
- Supporting cross functional and cross site collaboration through the Metrology Technical Forum, sharing best practice and technical knowledge
- Contributing to the development of the long term Metrology Strategy through research, future technology scanning and data driven insights

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, you’ll bring strong engineering fundamentals, curiosity for emerging technology and a collaborative mindset. To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- A degree, HNC or HND in a relevant engineering discipline
- Practical metrology experience, with understanding of measurement principles, equipment and systems
- A good understanding of manufacturing processes and dimensional quality concepts
- Knowledge of part and assembly location strategy principles and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Working knowledge of Measurement System Analysis concepts, including bias, linearity, stability and R&R
- The ability to interpret capability and measurement data to support technical and investment decisions
- CAD capability, ideally using CATIA V5/V6
Desirable experience includes exposure to automotive manufacturing (ideally Body in White), project management skills, and advanced knowledge of Calipri (Gap & Flush) and CMS measurement technologies.
