JLR are seeking a Stamping Lead Controls Engineer to help propel the future of manufacturing innovation. As part of the GME Stamping team, drive cutting-edge advancements in stamped part production and shaping tomorrow’s manufacturing landscape.
You’ll lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge control systems & standards across large-scale stamping machines and press lines, ensuring seamless integration, safety, and performance. WHAT TO EXPECT
Below is an overview of the key responsibilities that will be expected from you in the position:
- Lead planning, delivery, and commissioning of control systems for production-ready equipment
- Define and maintain control standards, technical specifications, and project documentation across new and legacy stamping facilities
- Develop PLC interfaces, machine monitoring systems, and virtual automation models for simulation and testing
- Ensure compliance with safety legislation through deployment and management of Safety PLC systems
- Collaborate with automation engineers, operations, and IT to optimise machine throughput and system integration
- Analyse CM/PM data to support predictive maintenance and continuous improvement, including creation of work instruction sheets
- Provide expert problem-solving support and lead root cause analysis across stamping teams
- Manage procurement of automation components and full machine replacements based on lifecycle assessments
- Working with and understanding our press and transfer facilities identifying user modes
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Bring your expertise and precision to engineer smarter, safer, and more efficient manufacturing systems. The following skillsets will be crucial for successful application to the role:
- Previous experience and expertise in the specification, delivery, installation and launch of Controls Systems, preferably in an automotive or stamping environment
- Strong understanding of machine electrical systems, large-scale drives, motors, and servo technologies
- Proficient in PLC programming from scratch, with hands-on knowledge of TIA Portal
- Skilled in industrial robotics, particularly ABB systems, and automation integration
- In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental standards, including risk assessment for automation equipment
- An understanding of press and transfer facilities and how they both operate and communicate to each other
- Capable of developing and managing maintenance processes and predictive systems
- Effective in problem-solving, debugging, and stakeholder collaboration across engineering and supplier teams
