WHAT TO EXPECT
 
This role forms part of the Product Engineering organisation, which takes responsibility for creating vehicles and the supporting digital services from inception through to vehicle and service launch. Working here, you will play a key role in the development and engineering activities that give our vehicles their unique characteristics. It's all part of creating vehicles and experiences that delight customers and set us apart from the competition.
 
You will work with leading partners across the automotive, tech and IoT ecosystems. The Connected Car team is looking for an IoT Solutions Architect to take a leading role in the design and development of our next generation digital services platform.
 
The role will include the following tasks:
 

  • Technical specification and design of a portfolio of connected car services
  • In conjunction with product owners, systems engineers and other business stakeholders, take a leading role in developing the best connected car solutions
  • Drive the creation of prototypes and proofs of concepts
  • Define and create APIs for the created services
  • Work and engage with ecosystem players, external data sources, platform providers and other third parties to create compelling data-driven applications
  • Ensure security and data privacy business needs are met

 
The Digital Platform will be at the heart of the Mobility services offered and will bring together our users, vehicles and an exciting range of partners, ranging from Smart Cities to innovative start-ups. You will work at the heart of making our ACES strategy (Autonomous - Connected - Electrified - Shared) a reality.
 
You will be responsible for shaping the technology strategy, ensuring best-practice design standards, adopting the correct technologies and designs to create class-leading connected car services.
 
You will be familiar with major cloud platforms, and while you will have deep technical skills, you will also be strongly customer-focused, recognising the impact on the end user experience. You will be highly collaborative, at heart a team-player, always keen to engage with other technical experts across the organisation. You will not be happy just to do things the way they always have been done, but be at the leading edge of learning to work with new technologies, partners and adopting new ways of working.
 
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
 
You’ll have experience as an architect or software development lead for cloud-hosted software, creating application software and developing and specifying associated APIs. Strong understanding and experience of emerging cloud services and data architectures, such as serverless services, IoT services, telematics, mobile services and working in an agile software development environment. While hands-on coding is not a primary function of this role, you will have had in-depth experience in programming in at least one language such as node.js, Java and Python. You will also, if you wish, have the opportunity to continue hands-on development.
 
Experience and Qualifications    
   

  • A University degree in Computer Science or a related subject
  • Experience in creating consumer products
  • Previous experience with Automotive and vehicle systems e.g. Telematics, Connected Services
  • Experience working with a number of agile workflow tools including: JIRA, Confluence, agile kanbans
  • Experience at working in an agile development environment, preferably at scale using frameworks such as SAFe or LeSS
  • Big Data experience
  • Experience working with Machine Learning or other branches of Artificial Intelligence
  • Excellent teamwork skills and experience working with and managing complex stakeholder relationships
