The Electric Drive Unit (EDU) Controls team is part of EP-4 Power Electronics department. The team is responsible for delivering robust EDU controls systems to the JLR business. Within this remit, the team holds responsibility for the Controls System Architecture of the EDU.  We are recruiting a Controls Engineer to join the team to help with project delivery

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, testing and introduction of production level Electric Drive Unit Software in support of Jaguar Land Rovers future electrified powertrains.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


  • Technical support of software and controls functions throughout whole product development lifecycle
  • Support the development and on time delivery of the software feature plan in line with quality and cost targets
  • Collaborate with internal multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure design targets are met (e.g. Requirements, System, EDU, Mechanical, PCB Design, E-Machine)
  • Ensure all appropriate JLR software requirements and standards are met throughout product development lifecycle
  • Support development and maintenance of engineering design documentation for software and calibration deliverables
  • Support JLR Software supplier framework process and software quality reviews in co-operation with central JLR software quality team
  • Support relevant Engineering Advanced Product Quality Planning deliverables in line with PPAP process
  • Lead resolution of key development, launch and ongoing quality issues
  • Cross team and cross functional working to elicit and develop component software requirements
  • Development, test and simulation through Simulink/Stateflow.
  • Support development and delivery of the software and function validation plan
  • Support Functional Safety work products development associated with software in accordance with ISO26262
  • Analysis of discovered issues to enable root cause determination and resolution


What You’ll Need


  • Degree qualified in Software or Electronic Engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years Software development experience in a relevant industry (Automotive, Aerospace, Traction or similar)
  • Experience of automotive communication protocols and hardware (Flexray, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN)
  • Knowledge of ISO26262 with experience developing software work products in support of safety team
  • Knowledge of best practice approaches for automotive embedded software design in accordance with global standards such as ASPICE / MISRA
  • Experience developing and executing software validation plans (MIL, SIL, PIL, HIL, Rig)
  • Competent Matlab/Simulink user
  • Competent ETAS / Vector tools user
  • Capable of validating the control code through use of software validation tools and in the HIL environment
  • Experience of quality tools (P diagrams, FMEA, FFA etc.) to support creation of robust algorithms
  • Knowledge of Powertrain and / or Electrical systems
  • Proven people and networking skills to bring out the best from others and bring in best practices
  • Experience in writing and maintaining requirements for control software for real-time embedded systems (ideally in DOORS).





  • Experience developing software for inverters with working voltages up to 1000V and power ratings in excess of 150kW
  • Knowledge of analogue and digital circuitry used in complex automotive ECUs
  • Knowledge of electrified vehicle architectures & platforms
  • Working towards chartered status
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills
  • Automotive development experience
  • Proven experience designing products for high volume manufacture
