The role will be within the Chassis and Motion Control Systems team, forming part of the Body/Chassis Engineering Department. The team develops control systems and delivers software design for existing and future Chassis, Electrical, ADAS Motion Control, and various new technologies for enhancing the driving experience and working towards the goal of autonomous driving.


The role is supporting the development of next generation ADAS motion control systems into ECUs, vehicles, rigs and virtual environments within a team specialised in the creation and deployment of ADAS motion control functions. The control systems delivered cover a wide range of autonomy from ADAS level 1 to ADAS level 4.


The responsibilities of the role include design and development of model-based control functions, demonstration of new concepts and systems via desktop simulation and concept vehicles, working with software engineers to update and improve existing systems and architectures and testing and de-bugging in virtual and physical environments. To do this you will be involved in the requirements analysis and decomposition, control strategy design, development and execution of validation process and associated simulation environments. You will be working with a team of system and control engineers, including an offshore team, to deliver concept and production systems in a timely manner according to vehicle programme timing and local delivery milestones


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


• Own the creation of C++ code either generated manually or automatically from Matlab/Simulink models. The code will have to be integrated in production intent software frameworks, capable to deliver up to L4 level of autonomy.

• Creation of simulation environments to support the validation of both C++ and Matlab/Simulink model.

• Experience with Git, Gitlab and pipelines for software Continuous Improvement

• Working with a team of system, software and control engineers, including an offshore team, to deliver concept and production systems in a timely manner according to vehicle programme timing and local delivery milestones

• De-bugging of created code via unit and system tests in simulation but also in the real hardware.

• Carry out vehicle and system data logging, analysing and reporting findings.

• Definition and implementation of an automated software quality pipeline.

• Definition and creation of interfaces between the different software components in the automated driving stack.

• Creation of software tools aimed at enabling Rapid Controller Prototype (RCP) and S-function builds to support internal customer physical and virtual validation activities.



Knowledge, Skills and Experience



• A degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related subject.

• Professional experience in C/C++ programming of safety-critical systems

• Professional knowledge of MISRA for C/C++ and tools used for software testing (e.g. Polyspace, LDRA, Cantata)

• Experience of safety critical systems and software, including standards such as ISO26262, IEC61508 or similar.

• Understanding of Control System design and development using the Mathworks toolchain (Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow) for real time applications.

• Understanding of quality and robustness techniques and standards such as FMEA, P-Diagrams, noise factor analysis, and data analysis techniques to support this

• An ability to work independently to solve complex technical issues using a structured approach and identify areas for improvement.

• Basic understanding of vehicle dynamics and control concepts



• Understanding of Autosar guidelines for C/C++

• Understanding of Simulink Embedded coder, and tools for model quality (design verifier, Polispace, etc.)

• Knowledge of Rapid Control Prototyping tools (e.g. DSpace Control Desk for MicroAutobox or similar)

• Prior automotive controls experience in; ADAS systems, Chassis, Vehicle Dynamics, or Longitudinal Control preferred, though strong candidates with relevant control system experience from other industries such as aerospace will also be considered

• Proficiency in Python programming
