JOB TITLE: Architecture Lead Studies Engineer

Working within the Special Vehicle Operations  Forward Model Architecture (FMA) team you will be responsible for translating marketing and design aspirations into "engineered" vehicle architectures, primarily within the low volume segment of the premium automotive market. 

 

You will ideally possess in-depth knowledge of at least one of the major systems within a vehicle such as body, chassis, electrical or powertrain engineering. You will need to be able to interact with experts from all these disciplines to manage and resolve the cross-functional engineering challenges associated with the development of new vehicles. 

 

You will be working to define and develop vehicle concepts to a stage of proven design and manufacturing feasibility against defined programme gateways. This role is high profile within SVO and you will be working with, and presenting your work, to managers and engineers at all levels across the business. 

 

You will ideally be qualified to degree level and have significant experience of the engineering challenges associated with new vehicle development including vehicle performance targets, packaging constraints, weight targets, design feasibility and manufacturing feasibility. Alongside your technical knowledge you will possess exceptional inter-personal skills and the drive to meet demanding deadlines. 

 


Key Responsibilities   

 

Lead the SVO vehicle and engineering teams on programmes in the pre-<PSC> phase.

 

•    Ensure high level program targets and aspirations are in place including relevant statement of intent and vignettes
•    Ensure the core architecture and systems are specified, agreed and capable of delivering these targets including any unique SVO requirements
•    Responsible for system architecture 1 pagers and red book input
•    Lead technical resolution of cross functional issues in the early phase to ensure the correct balance of customer requirements & business needs.
•    Liaison with all Engineering areas, Quality, Purchase, Marketing, Vehicle Integration, Vehicle Attribute Teams, Product Strategy, Manufacturing and Finance across Jaguar and Land Rover, to compile robust component assumptions, costs and weight data to develop the requirements and features chosen for future products
•    Develop Pre <KO>  vehicle study proposal.
•    Support the engineering teams in the creation of system strategies for SVO products

 

Skills, experience and qualifications required   

 

This is a high visibility and challenging role, and key to the role is ensuring the vehicles we develop meet the brand targets and delight customers. As such; 

 

•    Qualified to degree level.
•    It is essential that the individual has worked in an engineering environment with experience of whole vehicle engineering issues.
•    Teamcentre engineering and Vis-Mockup would be advantageous
•    Previous Forward model architecture experience would be an advantage including Pre-PSC deliverables.
•    Experience of PCDS and all engineering planning and delivery processes,
•    Ability to negotiate with other functions to achieve objectives.
•    High drive, self-motivated and able to deliver with minimum supervision.
•    Candidates must be committed, flexible and able to work under pressure.
•    Good leadership and influencing skills
•    The ability to manage complex technical issues is essential to balance the often conflicting needs of the business, within project timing constraints.
•    Both verbal and written communication skills are important to report technical issues across all levels, and these should be combined with a confident attitude.
•    The candidate must have a record of proactive delivery and commitment to meeting deadlines.
•    The candidate must be flexible with regard to multiple site working with inter-site travel required occasionally.

 

Essential:

 

•    Teamcentre trained and user
•    A good working knowledge of product creation & delivery, change control, product definition and change management processes 
•    Application of TCDS for project delivery
•    Degree or relevant equivalent experience preferred 

 

Desirable:

 

•    Previous experience within engineering or programme planning departments
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills
•    Catia V5

 

This role may offer the opportunity for hybrid working where you can split your time between working from home and in the office.
