What to expect

 

The successful candidate will lead the design, development, testing and introduction of new Suspension System Architecture (SSA) systems and commodities. This is inclusive of suspension links, knuckles, frames, mounting and surrounding underbody structural components. The role requires the individual to deliver the commodity plan to quality, cost and time and lead on the technical content and integrity of specific components and systems across specific SVO programmes.

 

Key Performance Indicators

 

  • All design solutions meet commercial, functional, attribute and legal requirements
  • Component maturation plan and engineering validation delivered on time to meet program builds and gateways
  • Workload to be managed in an open and transparent manor, consistent with the JLR Customer First principles

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and develop the SSA component design and delivery within SVO Chassis, including investigation of new technology and suppliers.
  • Own component 2D and 3D geometry maturation in line with the development, preferably directly managing CAD packages
  • Deliver the commodity plan to quality, cost and time, including maintaining the Worldwide Engineering Release System
  • Own and deliver the Engineering Advanced Product Quality Planning deliverables
  • Manage Change Request, expenditure forecasting and the relevant supplier teams in support of delivery of the programme milestones
  • Manage DV and PV test plans, including detailed planning of test and development stages through to sign off and support engineering test teams with rectification of issues
  • Resolve issues with component engineering and vehicle attribute teams to develop designs that meet targets
  • Ensure all appropriate JLR standards are met through-out design maturation
  • Provide input into new feature development
  • Identify and deliver efficiency improvements, including weight, cost and complexity reduction
  • Ensure all programme design solutions meet:
    • Programme targets for cost and weight
    • Legal regulations and Requirements Management and Design Verification documentation
    • Optical Quality and Premium Consumer Product Audit requirements

 

What you'll need

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential:

  • Proven technical knowledge and automotive engineering experience of the design and development of suspension system hardware, particularly knuckle, links and subframes
  • Previous experience of managing resolution of business, technical and process issues within a Project Team environment
  • A good working knowledge of product creation and delivery, change control, product definition and change management processes
  • Proven ability to manage senior stakeholders and communicate at all levels
  • Experience in Microsoft Office software
  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience preferred  

 

Desirable:

  • Capability in using Virtual Engineering tools such as Teamcenter, Enovia, CATIA V5 & CATIA V6
  • An understanding of how the suspension architecture influences the vehicles dynamic behaviour, delivers the vehicle level targets and how this is distilled to a system/component level
  • Knowledge of component manufacturing techniques
  • Knowledge of component design for high performance applications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills
