The Opportunity


The role of Trading Division Buyer is a high-profile Supply Chain role which requires stakeholder engagement at many levels within JLR and the external supply base. The Trading Division buyer will be responsible for a commodity area covering a number of high value parts which impacts across several key functions of the business including Programmes, Supplier Technical Assistance, Manufacturing and Export Sales Centres. A varied skill set is required due to the speciality of the commodities being purchased. The role requires a high level of interaction internally, as well as a continual flow of high-level communication with the supply base and overseas Factories.


Key Performance Indicators


  • Managing Supplier Performance through Business review and demonstrating clear operational improvements.
  • High Hurt Supply issues managed to a resolution with minimal supply disruption and full cost recovery.
  • Purchase orders in place to cover pre-authorised spend with no pre-commitments.
  • No aged debt on supplier account / Suspended Receipts.
  • Recovery of supplier liable containment costs including Freight / Inspection / Reject parts.
  • Risks and issues identified, with action plans in place and delivered on time.
  • Managing supplier obsolescence with minimal cost exposure.
  • Managing a commodity deck, ensuring supply readiness from ACVB through to end of life.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


This role is strategic and will work as the purchasing lead for all Trading Division related items for production of vehicles outside of the UK for both Jaguar and Land Rover. The successful candidate will interface regularly between production buyers, suppliers, Programme teams, STA, Overseas factories, and ESC’s and will be responsible for enabling the purchase and supply chain of global production for specified projects through negotiated costs with suppliers and deliver class leading value to our International Manufacturing programmes.


  • Work with part manufacturers and take appropriate action to resolve any issues to supply.
  • Own and update all project documents and issue reports to seniors based on KPI’s set.
  • Build, develop and grow any relationships vital to the success of the operation.
  • Maintain SAP for commodity area to ensure no supply chain risks emerge.
  • Manage Supplier Communications & Change management.
  • Ensure Supplier performance reviews are held routinely and driven by supplier scorecard

  • Delivering complex supply chain solutions in a fast paced, high pressured manufacturing environment

  • Implementing and delivering purchasing strategies with the focus on total value chain delivery

  • Extensive experience of working in SAP Turbo for procurement
  • An understanding of cost drivers throughout a manufacturing environment

  • Extensive experience in stakeholder management and relationship management skills and experience
  • Professionally qualified with a proven track record in a purchasing or other commercial negotiating environment
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills




  • Experience of the JLR aftermarket
  • An individual with a proven track record in delivering results in both favourable and unfavourable conditions
  • The ability to challenge in a positive way whilst building credibility and trust through experience and personal style
  • Experience of working in a global, multi-cultural environment
  • Experience of dealing with global companies with high value revenue
