This role assists the Body Chassis Engineering teams with achievement of class leading product designs, aimed specifically at customer satisfaction and future model (pre Programme Definition PD) programmes, Body of Knowledge (BOK) and Strategic Planning including innovation opportunities.

Responsible for the collection and dissemination of customer satisfaction information from consumer surveys to the JLR Body Chassis Engineering community. Coaching teams on best practice problem solving and systems engineering techniques, providing engineering quality expertise and process guidance, ensuring consistency of approach and application.


Key Performance Indicators

  • Body of Knowledge artifacts and workstreams supporting route maps to best in class product quality performance, all recorded in appropriate systems
  • Clear line of sight from customer requirements to high performing Body Chassis components and integrated systems which provide an outstanding customer experience.
  • Maintaining best in class quality for the life of the vehicle with a rapid continuous improvement mindset and delivery.
  • All EBC quality risks and failure to meet targets are visible and mitigated to maximum effect through the life of the engineering programme.
  • Kano modelling in place, addressing future needs and innovation opportunities.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Early Phase Engineering and Innovation

  • Work on the Body of Knowledge (BOK) for Body Chassis Engineering which attains Best in Class levels of customer satisfaction and feature content, working with Attributes, Technical Centres, Company Quality, Marketing Sales & Service and Plant Vehicle Teams.
  • Support the product engineers to accurately define and represent design and product challenges and solutions by utilising and engaging company problem solving and systems engineering techniques. Directing the gatherings of materials and information from appropriate corporate sources.
  • Provide process support and assistance across the operational team on topics relating to the integration of multiple interconnected components including issue resolution and objective data analysis.
  • Ensure optimum systems performance under all operating conditions, focussing on boundary conditions, robustness and system integration critical x’s.
  • Work with Technical Specialists and Research Engineering on Attribute and Function Forward Strategies, including new Function Definition and Failure Mode Avoidance. Assist and contribute to the generation of targets and verification methods that are driven by Customer, Function Requirements and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
  • Risk identification and mitigation process coaching.


Customer Satisfaction and Learning

  • Work with the Body Chassis Product Development teams to drive the engineering actions required to deliver the key quality metrics on the Corporate Scorecard and escalating issues where appropriate to drive resolution.
  • JD Power and Customer Quality Insights (CQI) route maps to achieve best in class customer satisfaction levels in line with corporate targets.
  • Ensure Product Engineering lessons learnt from all strategic and programme delivery stages are captured and progressed to resolution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience



  • Experience in applying Systems Engineering and in solving complex technical issues using a structured approach – use cases, system definition, system architecture development, requirements specification.
  • Early phase risk management skills - e.g. Root Cause Analysis, 8 Disciplines of problem solving, Design of Experiments, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), P Diagrams and Robustness, Define Measure Analyse Implement Control Replicate processes.
  • Experience of cross functional co-ordination of diverse teams in Engineering, Research, Quality, Manufacturing / supply base.
  • Experience of analysing significant quantities of data, using pivot charts, paretos and other methods to draw out key themes.
  • Understanding of and ability to review data from the following sources: CQI, JD Power, NCBS, warranty, GCI reports, Engineering Fleet and prototype vehicles, Requirement capturing - S-DOTS/TRM, DOORS
  • Ability to design and deliver clear and concise communications to work groups and senior management.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office tools - Power Point, Excel, Word. Tableau
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience



  • Vehicle development and/or broad overall technical knowledge of vehicle systems related to Body and Chassis Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Innovation aids – TRIZ, Kano modelling, mind map
  • Experience with Define, Characterise, Optimise, Verify DCOV processes
  • Understanding of Agile methodology
