WHAT TO EXPECT   

 

The role of Lead Engineer sits within the Seating Team, focusing on seat core activities (off the cycle) within the seating technical centre as well as focusing on programme delivery (on cycle development). It is a critical role that might encompass leading a team of less or more experienced engineers (project, CAD, CAE, graduates, apprentices). You will also act as the point of contact for the wider team as well as internal and external customers regarding seat pneumatics. You will be working with the Group Leader and or Chapter Lead (Module Leader) on all aspects of seat responsibilities such as Bill Of Design / Bill of Process / Standards updates / Requirements updates / DFMEA / AIMS / PR-AIMS / quality resolution / Future strategies and Road maps as well as working in delivery team (on-cycle team/squad).   

 
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

 

•    Responsible for a technical aspect of design/engineering, checking interfaces compatibility between pneumatic systems and seating components (frames, suspension mats, head restraint, climate/massage units, foams, trims, motors and other components) and looking at seat system engineering and supplier management.  

•    Assist and contribute to the generation of targets and verification methods that are driven by Customer, Function Requirements and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.  

•    Lead and contribute to the delivery of systems or components developed off cycle onto all programmes, in line with the Product Creation & Delivery System and Agile methodology.  

•    Provide technical support and assistance across the operational team on topics relating to the integration and harmonisation of multiple interconnected components including issue resolution and objective data analysis.  

•    Work with Technical Specialists, Subject Matter Experts and other lead engineers on Attribute and Functional Forward Strategies, including new Function Definition and Failure Mode Avoidance.  

•    Undertake any other work as directed by Group Leader (line manager) in connection with job as it may be requested.  

•    Responsible for developing, reviewing, maintaining, updating and improving DFMEA and associated failure mode avoidance systems such as DRBFM.  

•    Responsible for relevant Bills of Design, standards and quality related system updates and other documentation   

•    Establish relevant benchmarking and learning from benchmarking on pneumatics systems 

 

 
WHAT YOU WILL NEED 

 

Knowledge, Skills and experience 

 

Essential:  

  • In depth engineering experience working on automotive projects specifically seating pneumatic systems.  

  • Relevant experience of delivering pneumatic components or systems with Tier 1/2/3/4 supplier.   

  • Experience in full development lifecycle for pneumatic systems and components / systems (pneumatic systems, lumbar support, bolster support, massage systems, pump, valve blocks).  

  • Experience in creating/updating requirements and testing methods 

  • Understanding of JIT environment and interactions with other seat components of seating systems (head restraints, foams, trims, plastics, heat/cool systems, etc)  

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and feasibility issues/restrictions.  

  • Strong technical individual with ability to check and release component drawings 

 

Desirable:   

  • Higher degree 

  • Experience in releasing 3D/2D drawings  

  • At least one full development cycle on seating or interior system   

  • Knowledge of systems such as DOORS/RMDV/RTC/JIRA/SDots/ WERS/AIMS/3dX 

  • Trained/Experienced using AGILE methodology and Agile planning tools such as Jira and Confluence  

  • Experience in Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA) & Design Review Based of Failure Mode (DRBFM). 

  • Ability to use CAD viewer tools such as Digi buck / Teamcenter.   
    Trained in CATIA V5/V6/3Dx including working with and/or setting up kinematic models.  

  • Understanding of project planning and delivery to plan.  

  • 6 sigma trained. 

  • Full UK driving licence
