JOB TITLE: Lead System Engineer
SALARY: £42,000 - £50,000

The role will be within the Chassis and Motion Control Systems team, forming part of the Body/Chassis Engineering Department. The team develops control systems and delivers software design for existing and future Chassis, Electrical, ADAS Motion Control, and various new technologies and enhancing the driving experience and working towards the goal of autonomous driving.


The role is the leading of agile methodology as well as the development of next generation ADAS motion control systems within a team specialised in the creation and deployment of ADAS lateral and longitudinal motion control. The control systems being developed cover a wide range of ADAS autonomy levels from 1 to 4. This role has a focus on project management within the agile methodologies of Kanban and Scrum whilst remaining technically involved in the system engineering activities. The team is architecting model-based control systems into the next generation of vehicle electrical architectures. The role will require you to develop an in-depth understand of the influence of new electrical architectures on control functions and define architectural changes that retain or enhance system performance.


You will also support delivery of rigorous Functional Safety and Cyber Security cases, produce control system documentation in accordance with industry best practise and internal standards as well as lead creation of the comprehensive requirements decks, interface specifications and other artefacts required in the implementation phase.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


• Own and manage system development plan at high level. Report out to regular intervals

• Facilitating stakeholder collaboration as requested or needed

• Leading the definition of logical system design and requirements for motion control

• Leading the definition of system architectures for motion control to be compatible with the next generation of vehicle electrical architectures

• Generating technical evidence to show that architectures meet JLR standards and system performance requirements

• Develop and maintain a system development plan in line with system engineering best practices within an agile framework

• Lead delivery of required the documentation of control system at logical and implementation levels.

• Identifying requirements for cascade to elements beyond the control system boundary (e.g. sensors, electrical architecture, ECU base software etc).

• Define network communication requirements for the deployment of control systems. Submit requirements into the networks design process with documentation and providing support throughout the approvals process.

• Define work packages required to realise and test control systems



Knowledge, Skills and Experience



• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Development or a related subject

• Experienced in Model Based Control System Design

• An understanding of vehicle network communications, ECUs and electronics

• Prior experience of Model Based software delivery for safety critical systems in accordance with a quality management process



• Experience of having worked in an agile methodology

• Experience of working with mechatronic actuation systems

• Knowledge of Functional Safety and Cyber Security tools and processes

• Matlab Simulink experience

• An understanding of Chassis Control systems and their influence on vehicle dynamic behaviour

• An understanding of AutoSAR software architectures

• Experience with following software applications; IBM DOORS, RTC, Rhapsody. CATIA system engineering tools and MS Office tools
