Jaguar Land Rover is a multi-site business and you’ll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations. Once you’ve successfully completed your graduate programme, you can look forward to a long-term career with us. The role you take on will depend on your performance, personal preferences and business needs.

We are the pioneers creating the next-generation of outstanding vehicles, founded on modern luxury. Each and every one of us are shaping the exceptional with soul. We are reimagining the driving of tomorrow and redefining what’s possible.

We are the future of movement.

We can’t wait to see what you can do with us.

Hardware and Mechatronics Engineering

Hardware and Mechatronics are at the heart of all Jaguar Land Rover vehicles and is fundamental to how we address evolving engineering challenges. Our vehicle dynamics and off-road capability sets us apart, but we also focus on Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH), door systems, headlamps, glazing and seats, with a remit spanning mechanical design, integration and systems engineering.

Our mission is to deliver outstanding customer experiences. This is supported by the creative and innovative skills of our people as well as the range of tools and processes we use. Failure mode and effect analysis are fundamental to providing safety-critical, high-performing and high-quality systems for our customers. Throughout the design and verification process, you will utilise both Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) toolsets to deliver the engineering specifications, with world-class system engineering tools to assist you in designing electromechanical control systems.

You will enjoy the opportunity to rotate between areas, giving you a rounded view of our business and enabling you to develop cross-functional relationships and insights.

On the Hardware & Mechatronics Graduate Programme you could work in one of the following departments: Engineering Body Chassis (EBC), Engineering Vehicle (EV), Engineering Operations (EO), Engineering Research (ER) or Special Vehicle Operations (SVO). You will be allocated to a department based on personal preferences and business need.

Engineering Body Chassis (EBC)

The Engineering Body Chassis department is responsible for most of what you see and touch in our cars. We work closely with design studios to translate award-winning concepts into engineering reality, factoring in performance, manufacturability, sustainability, cost and weight. Our remit spans lids, doors, structures, cabin and safety, cockpit, climate, seats, exteriors, lighting, glazing and roofs.

In short, we provide everything necessary for a great driving experience, including motion control systems for every situation. From axles to steering, brakes to suspension, we make it happen and you will be personally responsible for developing real-world engineering solutions – quickly gaining all the skills for a fast-moving engineering career.

Engineering Vehicle (EV)

Being able to go anywhere and do anything is right at the heart of a Land Rover. You will ensure our vehicles can handle anything our customers may throw at them – applying your expertise, vehicle test techniques and virtual tools to reduce weight and improve range so our drivers can go off-road and live life to the full. Along the way, you will grow into an experienced engineer, technical leader and manager of the future.

Engineering Operations (EO)

Applying custom tools and processes and specialist technical services, Engineering Operations is central to our technical innovation and product delivery. We are a diverse team that harnesses a variety of skill sets, from information management and data analytics to building and testing prototypes.

We are fundamentally involved at every stage of the engineering process and are driving an exciting transformation in the way we engineer and deliver our products with class-leading technology and quality.

Engineering Research (ER)

Engineering Research covers all the different engineering elements that make up the car in the early stages of discovery, feasibility and invention. The team focuses on solving difficult scientific and engineering problems, undertaking technical feasibility studies, building prototypes (both physical and software), and creating proof of concepts. The team drives about a third of innovation patents for Jaguar Land Rover and is at the heart of our innovative business.

Special Vehicle Operations (SVO)

SVO is responsible for the most luxurious and specialist vehicles within the premium brands of Jaguar and Land Rover. Home to diverse business areas and skill sets, SVO will give you a breadth of experience during the graduate programme to suit your interests and abilities.

Within the SVO Chassis group, we cover hardware and systems delivery including suspension tuneable, suspension architecture, brakes, steering, wheels and tyres, motion controls, CAE structural analysis and multibody simulation. Joining the Chassis SVO team will allow you to experience these diverse engineering disciplines and find a role that you love. You may be sure you will be guided by experienced engineers to apply new technologies and develop innovative solutions to create truly amazing products.

Entry Requirements

You will need to hold or be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in mechanical, electronic, electrical, software, chemical, aeronautical, automotive, material or environmental engineering, aerospace computer science, mechatronics, maths or physics.

You will have a real passion for problem solving and the curiosity to understand business challenges and deliver innovative solutions. You will also have strong numerical and interpersonal skills and the confidence to champion new initiatives.

Rewards and benefits

We haven’t yet confirmed our 2023 graduate programme salary, but in 2022 this was £29,000. You’ll also receive a £2,000 joining bonus to welcome you to Jaguar Land Rover, plus a generous holiday allowance, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, an excellent pension scheme and access to a wide range of deals and discounts from retailers and sports clubs.
