REQ ID: 58581
JOB TITLE: SME Wheel and Tyre CAE
SALARY: Competitive
Jaguar Land Rover is harnessing technology to make driving smarter, safer and cleaner. You can help create a world in which responsible, sustainable vehicles revolutionise the driving experience for generations. Our vision is to leverage the incredible potential of technology to build vehicles that not only offer a premium, all-encompassing digital experience, but that also make our customers lives better.

We have an exciting opportunity for an engineer with some relevant experience to join the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Wheel and Tyre Modelling (CAE) Team at Gaydon in the UK, to become the Subject Matter Expert and lead the support of virtual wheel and tyre development activities on vehicle programs.

You will need to have good knowledge of tyre modelling (and Magic Formula, or ‘MF’ type tyre models in particular), and tyre lab testing, and be experienced with Mathworks Matlab. Any knowledge of other tyre models (in particular so-called ‘physical’ models such as FTire or CDTire), would be a bonus, as would experience of working in ‘vehicle dynamics’ and/or with 'tyres'.

  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Self-motivated and able to work to broad guidance
  • Good understanding of vehicle dynamics and simulation
  • Good understanding of wheel and tyre dynamics and simulation
  • Experience with Magic Formula (MF) tyre modelling and parameter identification, and the use of these type of models in 1D and multi-body simulations
  • A good level of experience of using Matlab, and preferably also Simulink
  • Experience with managing large quantities of data, and data processing, in particular multi-dimensional and using Matlab
  • Good level of ability to use IPG CarMaker and/or Dassault Simpack
  • Good  project  management  capabilities,  including  managing  tasks  across  a  team  to  meet  all deliverables in a timely and effective manner.
  • To be customer focussed, constructively working with customers and responding to their enquiries, in line with JLR’s ‘customer first’ principles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with good influencing and engagement skills
  • Proven good report writing and presentation skills

  • Master level degree in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline such as Automotive or Motorsport Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with test data acquisition from either rigs or on-vehicle
  • An understanding of (and ideally experience with) alternative tyre models (e.g. FTire or CDTire) and their usage in multi-body simulation
  • An understanding of, or experience with, the effects of wheel rims on tyre forces and moments, and inclusion of those effects in simulation
  • Advanced driver trained on actual vehicles and/or using a driver in loop simulator
  • Basic knowledge  of  6-Sigma  tools  and  techniques  (particularly  process  development  and  statistical methods)
  • A good working knowledge of product definition, creation, and delivery processes in JLR

Bring all this to the home of premium innovation, and you’ll find the opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, membership of a competitive pension plan and performance related bonus scheme. All this and more makes Jaguar Land Rover the perfect place to continue your journey.

Please be aware that we may close this vacancy for applications before the stated deadline if we receive a high volume of interest. We strongly advise you to submit your application as early as possible.
