As a Technician – Multiskilled Machinist here at JLR, you'll play a key role in engineering laboratories, creating NC programmes and manufacturing precision components that enable the delivery of world class test rigs across structural test, climatic test and safety test. You'll support the technology development team by producing parts and fixtures that underpin new facility technology, infrastructure and physical test plans across STL, CST, VSTL, ETL and RLD.

This role will be working double day shifts  typically 06:00 to 14:05 / 13:55 to 22:00 Monday to Thursday, 06:00 to 12:00 / 11:50 to 17:50 Friday.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT 

In this role, no two days are the same. With lots of projects and relationships to build with people across the business and beyond, it’s a challenge that will help your career grow within an iconic organisation. Here’s what to expect:

  • Responsible for creating CNC part programs for a range of 3 and 5 axis Mazak and XYZ machining centres, from either 2D drawings or 3D CAD
  • Design of required fixtures and jigs to support CNC manufacturing
  • Self-inspection and quality control of manufactured fixtures
  • Work with CNC operators to formulate best working practices, and maintain tooling libraries
  • Work with the Technology Development Design teams to optimise designs for manufacture/programming
  • Liase with CNC operators and Workshop Supervisors to ensure standards in methods, tool cutting data, tool selection etc are maintained


WHAT YOU’LL NEED 

Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, there are several skills that you’ll need to have to help you succeed here, including:

  • Time served machinist milling/turning or equivalent recognised apprenticeship/experience
  • Ability to interpret 2D complex detailed designs in order to prepare parts for manufacture
  • Experience of cutting a variety of materials, ferrous and non-ferrous with a good understanding of tooling selection for the required component
  • Understand basic measurement principles
  • Ability to manage priorities, identify issues and solutions using own initiative, coupled with a desire to make a difference and achieve results
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of H&S, COSHH and environmental procedures
