Product Engineering at JLR is centred on innovation and creativity. From advanced driver assistance systems to developing the future of electric propulsion, the opportunities to create exceptional experiences for the future of motoring are wide-ranging. You'll work alongside industry experts to drive product strategy, manage programs, analyse performance, and lead transformation initiatives. Exceptional careers that bring world-renowned vehicles to life start here.

Are you ready to shape the future of materials data at JLR? We’re looking for a talented and experienced Lead Materials Data IT Development Engineer to join our dynamic team.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of advanced IT systems, analysis methods, and digital toolsets that support materials data management. You’ll play a key role in researching, implementing, and integrating new technologies into the department, helping to drive innovation and enhance efficiency across our operations.

A major focus of the role will be the ongoing development of the department’s Granta MI materials database. This includes managing data input and export processes, integrating with PLM systems, and enhancing reporting capabilities. You will also be responsible for developing bespoke software and scripts to support the extraction and analysis of test data.

In addition, you’ll work closely with JLR’s wider IT infrastructure to ensure that the Materials Engineering team—and its internal customers—can access and utilise the data they need. This will involve working with platforms such as Dassault 3Dx, Tableau, Wrike, Power Apps, and SharePoint to deliver tailored solutions that meet business requirements.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including –

  • Develop and deploy advanced IT technologies, data analysis tools, and database solutions to support the Materials Engineering function within the Vehicle Platform Technology Centre
  • Create and implement robust test data management tools and processes, streamlining the handling of technical data and reports to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Integrate materials data with JLR’s 3Dx PLM toolset, ensuring seamless delivery of material property data into PLM systems and enabling effective reporting on materials usage across vehicle programmes
  • Provide expert guidance on IT systems, tools, and processes, supporting colleagues across Materials Engineering with technical insight and best practices
  • Collaborate with the materials characterisation team to support the development and delivery of CAE materials datacards for simulation and analysis
  • Stay up to date with evolving JLR IT toolsets and strategies, ensuring alignment with the latest digital developments and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

We’re looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including –

  • Proven experience in materials data analysis, storage, and database development, with a strong understanding of how to manage and structure complex datasets effectively
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to investigate and evaluate emerging technologies and tools to enhance data processing and storage capabilities
  • Extensive experience in Python programming and software development, with a track record of delivering robust, scalable solutions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft VBA scripting, with the ability to automate tasks and streamline workflows where appropriate
  • A solid understanding of material properties and their definitions, ideally gained through practical application in an engineering or scientific environment
  • A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience, along with the ability to document code and software releases using version control platforms such as Bitbucket or GitLab
