The Role:

As a machine learning engineer, you will be working with the Planning and Prediction team within JLR. A key part of your role will be evaluating and benchmarking the supplier software delivery and making sure the product meets JLR standards. You will also be working on the design and development of AAD software for the next generation vehicles for JLR.

You will be part of a cross-functional agile team working in a scaled agile methodology to develop products with incremental improvements by incorporating feedback from stakeholders and constantly testing the features to improve performance. You will be working with the various suppliers in the project towards the final delivery of the software between the multiple companies as well as working within Product Engineering across multiple work groups and sub teams.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Develop machine intelligence algorithms for Prediction and Decision Making (path planning) within Autonomous Driving domain
  • Develop, evaluate and deploy state of the art Deep Neural Networks and Machine Learning workflows for Autonomous Driving domains
  • Translate technical ideas into algorithms
  • Review and consolidate existing code and ability to enhance it and reuse it
  • Work with large amounts of real and simulation data to improve algorithmic performance
  • Create Key Performance Indicators to support validation and verification of algorithms developed both in-house and by suppliers
  • Lead the Verification and Validation plans for evaluation of the NN algorithms
  • Handle application of Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning methods for Embedded applications
  • Ability to create artificial intelligence requirements to support the build up of the capability within the artificial intelligence and machine learning team
  • Contribute towards algorithm specification, FMEAS, robustness disciplines and design validation plans
  • Perform code reviews to ensure implementation is in line with architecture
  • Planning and Scheduling: Agree a complete end to end development schedule for software including release. Timing targets, capable of delivering activities to achieve these plans and the drafting / evaluation of software release notes.
  • Teamwork and Leadership: Positive team player, with the strength of character to drive non expert software engineers and mechanical engineers to support the development of robust code.
  • Understanding the business: Understands team & group goals
  • Coach, Train & Mentor: Shares knowledge with others through regular training and delivery support is fundamental to this role also.

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will be an individual with a proven track record in the quality development of software features. You will display a proactive willingness to volunteer for work elements/projects outside job scope where the you can contribute and it is a company priority.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience with Deep learning models
  • Experience with benchmarking and performance optimization of complex systems
  • Experience with robotics simulation environments
  • Understanding of risk-aware concepts in intention prediction and path planning algorithms and general uncertainty management
  • Experience with ML frameworks such as Pytorch or TensorFlow
  • Experience with programming languages like Python and C++
  • Experience with data pre-processing for tuning and testing complex Neural networks
  • Good mathematical reasoning skills
  • Experience with continuous integration principles for software development
  • Fundamental knowledge of electronic hardware systems
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Version control

 

Preferred:

  • MS or Ph.D in the areas of Computer Science, Computer visions, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or other related fields
  • Experience in Prediction or path planning for autonomous vehicles
  • Knowledge and experience in neural network optimization, such as distributed training, active learning, network quantization and CUDA acceleration
  • Experience in developing complex algorithms in C++ & Python skills (C++11 or newer)
  • Knowledge of automotive Functional Safety concepts
