As a Deputy Occupational Health Advisor, you’ll play a key role within our Health and Safety team, providing professional advice and support to a wide range of stakeholders across the business. Working closely with our in‑house occupational health team and an external provider, you’ll help deliver a high‑quality service that positively impacts the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees.
This varied role combines proactive sickness‑absence case management, fitness‑for‑work assessments, statutory health surveillance and involvement in wider health and wellbeing initiatives - giving you the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In this role, no two tasks are the same. With lots of projects and relationships to build with people across the business and beyond, it’s a challenge that will help your career grow within an iconic organisation. Here’s a summary of the key responsibilities:
- Support the Senior Workplace Health Advisor in delivering the occupational health service and managing departmental activities
- Conduct pre‑placement medical assessments to determine role suitability and advise on reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act
- Carry out fitness‑for‑work assessments for employees returning after illness or injury, providing guidance on rehabilitation needs
- Deliver statutory health surveillance for conditions such as occupational deafness, dermatitis, asthma and hand‑arm vibration syndrome, escalating cases when required
- Provide clear advice to managers and supervisors following assessments, including liaising with external clinicians and requesting medical reports where appropriate
- Visit workplaces when needed to assess job demands and provide accurate, evidence‑based fitness‑for‑work recommendations
- Participate in case conferences with managers and HR to support appropriate decision‑making and case management
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, there are several skills you’ll need to help you succeed, including:
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Full, valid driving licence
- Strong experience in Occupational Health and case management
- Ability to maintain accurate, confidential medical records in line with NMC standards
- Competent in delivering health surveillance (respiratory, skin, audiometry and HAVS)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Well organised, able to prioritise workload, and confident using IT systems
