This role will have the accountability for Competent Safety advice to our team of multi-disciplinary Engineers within the GME function. The work will involve all aspects involved with the delivery of the departmental safety Zero Harm Plan. The role also works within the Construction Design and Management Regulations to ensure robust safety standard during the installation phased are robustly adhered. 

 

There will be a need to interface with several internal and external stakeholders, including safety vendors, Corporate Safety, Project Managers, Contractors and all the different technologies (Stampings, Body, Paint, Trim, Propulsion, Logistics, Infrastructure, Dimensional, Central). This role is a key position in the delivery of GME’s Zero Harm Plan core works, and covers the full spectrum of Safety within the delivery of complex production systems. The role also includes the need for vendor visits and witness trips nationally and overseas as the programme defines

 


WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Provide safety support and competent advice to Process Engineers, including coaching on Design Risk Assessments and delivering safety‑related training.
  • Conduct internal and vendor safety audits, along with proactive support for accident investigations using the 8D methodology.
  • Lead and promote a strong “Zero Harm” culture by chairing Level 3 meetings, supporting Level 2 meetings, and driving safe contractor performance.
  • Produce weekly and ad‑hoc safety reports for senior management, including trend analysis, incident data collection, and shutdown‑period safety coordination.
  • Support continuous improvement of GME safety procedures and tools such as VISTAG.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED


Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, there are several skills that you’ll need to have to help you succeed here, including:

 

  • Clear understanding of site safety, and Safety legislation (CDM 2015 Reg etc) 
  • Health and Safety certificates such as IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent.
  • Experience and knowledge of ISO Standards and Directives (Specifically Design Risk Assessment - ISO 12100)
  • Experienced in CE/UKCA Legislation
  • Construction related safety knowledge / an understanding of BSA and machinery safety awareness.
