WHAT TO EXPECT 

 

Jaguar Land Rover is at the forefront of automotive design. Set within the beautiful Warwickshire countryside, our stunning world-class design facility at Gaydon houses a modern studio layout which encourages communication and creative collaboration between teams. The ability to work well in a team environment is critical to any candidate applying for this role.

 

The Design department is responsible for the creation and delivery of all visible surfaces on the exterior and interior, including the colour & materials and the User Interface of all Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. We are responsible for the creative process at the earliest concept stage of a project, generating creative, feasible solutions, releasing surfaces for tooling, and monitoring designs through to production. To support this wide remit, a diverse and multi-disciplined team comprised of Designers, Engineers, Digital & Physical Sculptors and an A-class Surfacing team are housed within our facility.

 

This exciting opportunity is based in the heart of our design facility and offers the ability to define and shape both our on-board future UI design and also influence the look of our off-board client touchpoints. Digital interaction within our vehicles is now a fundamental part of their design success. Working as a core part of a team designers, this is a chance to create, develop and define a modern luxury experience for our clients. We aim to make our client’s lives as easy and effortless as possible through intuitive and compelling design.

 

We are based in Gaydon, Warwickshire but very much open to remote working to attract the right talent for this particular role. There is also the opportunity to be based at our new London Hub.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the UI Design Manager, the role of the UI Senior Designer is highly creative. You will set out the vision and take the lead on the interface development for our future vehicles and touchpoints. In doing this, you will need to demonstrate your understanding of the modern luxury customer mindset. You’ll be working on our touchscreens, instrument clusters, virtual head-up displays, our app, just to name a few. You will need to engage and inspire the wider business by generating creative solutions to meet our strategic objectives. These objectives will be set by and agreed with the Chief Designer and Studio Director.

 

As a Senior UI designer, you will also be responsible for the development of our less experienced Designers. You will become a professional mentor and coach to them, helping to improve their skills and develop their individual career paths.

 

What You’ll Need

 

  • Proficient illustration and visual evaluation skills to visually and verbally communicate ideas and solutions.

  • A deep-rooted passion and personal creativity demonstrated through outstanding designs

  • Broad knowledge of UX design and the ability to develop intuitive design solutions with a client focus

  • Broad understanding of current and future trends in graphic and UI design in a both automotive and analogous industries

  • The ability to communicate ideas with stand-out presentations and inspire both the design team and the wider business.

  • An eye for simple, reductive but compelling designs.

  • You must be able to digest and integrate senior feedback as well as demonstrate a considered and confident approach to challenge and influence.

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • Primary skills include Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Figma.

  • Additional skills in After Effects, Adobe XD, Sketch, 3D software, PowerPoint, Jira, JavaScript, InDesign and also useful but not essential. 

  • Additional useful skills: 3D CAD modelling, rendering and 3D animation skills (Blender or 3ds) Unity or Unreal experience also useful but not essential. 

  • Proven experience of leading projects

  • Strong level of organisational skills
