Recognising the need for an increased focus on strategy, we now have an exciting opening within the Commodity Strategy team. You will become part of a growing team that has recently tripled in size to deliver upon its objectives for the enterprise.

It is the role of this team to lead cross functional strategy activities, orchestrate inputs, collate and provide a recommendation to the business, up to board level. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to grow a strong network, develop a great breadth of knowledge and gain significant exposure as you influence the future of Jaguar Land Rover, ensuring the competitiveness & profitability of our products moving forward.


Responsibilities of the Commodity Strategy Team:


  • Seek to drive a unified and cohesive approach to our future commodities across our product range
  • Scope, lead and deliver Commodity Strategy projects through to completion
  • Drive decisions and activity at the right levels in the business
  • Orchestrate the enterprise input to determine our long-term Vertical Integration strategy and deploy the Strategic Value Assessment in the Commodity Strategy process. Support Make vs Buy decision process​
  • Orchestrate the enterprise to bring to life the end-to-end value chain of key commodities, focusing on design, sourcing and manufacture​
  • Establish what the Toolkit key strategical parts are and embed them within the CoC’s with share-plans, governance and controls to manage part proliferation utilising the Commodity Strategy framework
  • Participate in the Open Innovation community and translate as required the outputs into Commodity Strategy projects​
  • Address primary areas of target incompatibilities and develop Toolkit Parts and Unit Programme application for all Jaguar Land Rover platforms




  • Identify, build and lead a cross functional team to deliver strategy formation onto vehicle programmes against defined targets (Material Cost, Weight, Quality & CO2e) on an agreed timeline, maintaining a project plan with key milestones and actions
  • Support prioritisation of projects to deliver the best overall impact on the business, balancing shorter term tactical queries with long term strategic vision.
  • Scope & lead strategy projects from kick off to business approval.
  • Challenge assumptions & question criteria representing every function in the enterprise.
  • Lead workshops, events and forums to collate relevant data from all key stakeholders
  • Create robust business cases and author papers to present strategic recommendations when representing the Commodity Strategy team in various senior decision-making forums
  • Proactively seek opportunities for transformational improvement through insight into portfolio strategy, awareness of new technology and meta-trends and any other trigger
  • Maintain the requirements of the department Quality Management System, driving adherence & continuous learning to the processes & toolsets used.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time

  • Ability to develop, maintain and leverage cross-functional networks at all levels in the organisation
  • Highly proficient at project management including stakeholder management, project scoping and target setting
  • Adept at quickly picking up technical and non-technical subjects outside area of expertise sufficient to constructively challenge assumptions
  • Facility for remaining impartial and data driven in approach, able to resist bias and influence in order to provide clear and balanced recommendations
  • Highly capable at disseminating complex strategic issues into straightforward and concise communications then creating and delivering presentations to all levels of audience
  • Conscientious and organised, able to juggle many simultaneous projects - delivering to commitments and acting with pace and urgency when role dictates
  • Awareness of global industry trends, consumer competitor & future trends, product, market knowledge and Jaguar Land Rover brand positioning
  • Acceptance of working with ambiguity; has an Inquisitive, resilient and initiative-taking approach to projects and investigations, able to work with positivity and minimal supervision to scope and develop clear action plans, overcoming emerging resistance


Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience: 


  • Communication and influencing skills
  • Both waterfall and Agile project management experience
  • MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, Word) and O365 Applications
  • People leadership
  • Understanding of the hierarchy of Architectures, Systems, Sub systems and Components
  • Knowledge of engineering processes and methods
  • Business and commercial acumen

This role may offer the opportunity for hybrid working where you can split your time between working from home and in the office.
