The Opportunity

 

Interested in shaping the efficiency of JLR’s future vehicles?  The Road Load Lead Engineer plays a key role within Vehicle Efficiency, seeking to minimise the tractive force required to move the vehicle.  They do this by working with specialists in the component groups (Tyres, Brake, Driveline etc) and attributes (Weight, Aero) to determine the most effective solutions and then collecting the data needed to target set and certify the vehicle

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

 

  • Be in charge of the physical Road Load delivery -> the end result being a certified road load used to calculate the Range / CO2. 
  • Work with Efficiency Product Owner and Platform/Programme leads to provide best technical solutions to manage optimum balance of component and system efficiency targets that deliver the desired vehicle efficiency.
  • Define adequate process for data handling/management for optimized efficiency (least demand for most value output)
  • Develop tools set in support of data analysis, evidencing and decision making for the platform/programme lead and/or Technical Specialist
  • Work with the CAE team to strengthen modelling capacity and increase correlation levels (accuracy of output)
  • Work with commodity and attribute specialists (Brakes, Tyres, Aero etc) to understand state-of-the-art and progress efficiency opportunities.
  • Benchmark competitors vehicles performances and respective technologies to support platform/programme lead in competitive positioning.
  • Plan, prepare, instrument, collect data, analyse and report out on road load metrics for major gateways of the programme.
  • Lead testing and support development of new test methods
  • Project manage testing (CAE and physical) from component level through to whole vehicle. 
  • Present Road Load technical features at meetings up to and including Chief Technical Engineer level.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time

 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

 

  • Applicants should be educated to Degree level (ideally with a focus on Mechanical, CAE or System Engineering) with relevant industrial experience.
  • Applicants should be self-starting and motivated to deliver class leading vehicle efficiency.
  • Strong technical background and methodical, structured approach to problem solving.
  • Desire to further technical understanding and develop new/enhanced processes and methods.
  • Highly numerate with ability to analyse large, complex data sets.
  • Proven experience of managing projects and balancing conflicting requirements.
  • Confident at presenting to all levels within the company and a proven ability to influence.

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of latest road load relevant certification legislation for UK,EU,NAS,China.
  • Vehicle/system integration experience
  • Experience of Systems Engineering
  • Experience of dyno testing
  • Experience of coastdown testing
  • Experience of component rig testing or simulation
  • Experience of MatLab / Simulink / Tableau
  • Experience of Robotic Process Autom
