JOB TITLE: Technical Specialist, Upperbody Canopy & Trunk
SALARY: £50,000 - £65,000 DOE

You’ll be the key technical competence within the company for all matters concerning the Canopy and trunk area of the upperbody cabin environment.




  • Be acknowledged within the department as the lead knowledge base on all Canopy and trunk
  • Requirements and competitor benchmarking (Trustmarks/SDS/ Customer related targets)
  • Be acknowledged within the department as the lead knowledge base on key Design Proportions/Surface impacts on Engineering (e.g. glass barrel)
  • Ensure there is a link between the central Package Engineering Technical Specialist / SME group and the project delivery Geometric/Zone Integration teams. To ensure targets are being met and component areas are being suitably stretched to protect the package targets, ensuring delivery of the best possible entitlement for the benefit of the paying customer: Space, Comfort and Visibility
  • Managing the internal Canopy and trunk Packaging requirements (Trustmark/SDS/Attribute) and evolve them commensurate with changes in the automotive landscape and customer quality feedbck (autonomous driving, ADAS etc)
  • Remain up to date with all interior component technologies and manufacturing methods (including key interface to Research projects and Design department), relating to the Canopy area
  • Conduct regular cross Tech Centres and Research Department product reviews to ensure knowledge sharing opportunites are maximised within the department, specifically relating to the Canopy area
  • Be lead user and implementor of Canopy and trunk area Knowledge Based Tools e.g. Master Sections, as well as Forward & Indirect Vision




The suitable candidate will have good communication skills and leadership, with experience of Automotive Engineering design, development and delivery. With this you will also need:



  • Experienced in matters concerning Interior Packaging, including UP Requirements and Standards and Legals/Regulations, Ingress/Egress being one of them
  • Understands the inter-dependencies and influences of the Underbody package/architecture on the Upperbody Interior comfort, space and visibility
  • Fully competent in CAD creation and visualisation – Catia V5 & V6
  • Self-starter able to sustain a high, multitask workload. Combine Engineering with business skills.
  • Ability to work within a team or alone with exceptional organisation skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have good presentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate to all levels within the company (production line to director level)
  • Must be computer literate, excel, word, PowerPoint and easily adapt to company specific systems (previous knowledge in WERS, AIMS, RMDV, ECR’s would be a benefit but not essential as training can be provided)


  • Previous work within a multidiscipline Engineering team. Experience of technical problem resolution. A knowledge of System validation processes
  • Experience in the science of Ergonomics
  • Experience in RMDV, SDOTS and Enovia would also be desirable
