Come and join JLR as a Manufacturing Process Engineer - Electric Motors - Rotor & Stator!

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join JLR as a Manufacturing Process Engineer within Global Manufacturing Engineering – Propulsion, focused on electric motors, rotors and stators. This role sits at the heart of JLR’s electrification journey, taking manufacturing technologies from concept through to launch and into stable production, supporting a new generation of electric vehicles.

 

You will be responsible for developing and delivering robust machining and assembly processes, owning manufacturing documentation and working closely with Product Development teams and external equipment suppliers. The role involves the procurement, installation and commissioning of advanced manufacturing equipment, ensuring world‑class safety, quality and process capability standards are met. You will also play a key part in resolving technical issues and supporting a smooth transition into plant operations.

 

Based primarily at the Whitley site, the role includes regular travel to other JLR facilities across the West Midlands, with periodic overseas travel to work directly with global technology suppliers. It is a hands‑on engineering role for someone who enjoys working closely with machinery, people and processes to bring new electric motor manufacturing facilities to life.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

 

As part of the team, you’ll be involved in a number of core activities that contribute to the success of the department, such as – 

 

  • Develop and implement complex machining and assembly processes that meet safety, quality, cost, delivery and environmental targets
  • Own and maintain manufacturing documentation and best practice for electric motor production, including process sheets, PFMEAs, control plans and Bills of Process
  • Lead robust Design for Manufacture (DFM) assessments and manage engineering change throughout all programme phases
  • Plan, design and support the development and implementation of tooling, jigs and fixtures for manufacturing
  • Verify process and equipment capability at supplier facilities and on JLR sites, in line with internal and external standards
  • Manage suppliers through the safe installation, commissioning and handover of manufacturing equipment at JLR plants
  • Support plant operations through launch and early production, resolving technical issues with processes and machinery through to a stable handover (uJ1 + 90 days)

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

We’re looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including – 

 

  • Proven experience in Manufacturing Engineering, with a solid understanding of Lean / Six Sigma tools and techniques
  • A demonstrable hands‑on engineering approach, with experience documenting and applying engineering best practice
  • Strong technical and communication skills, with the ability to work independently; experience in high‑volume propulsion or powertrain manufacturing is highly desirable
  • Experience covering machine acceptance, facility installation, project delivery, commissioning, capability analysis and production launch
  • Confident use of structured problem‑solving tools to resolve technical issues in time‑critical environments
  • Ability to work effectively within cross‑functional teams, supporting multiple programmes from early concept through to launch
  • HNC, HND or degree qualified in Manufacturing Systems, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering (or similar), with electric motor
