What you’ll do


EO10 is responsible for the Build and Test of Prototype Unit Under Tests (UUT) in support of overall powertrain cycle plan. Prototype Test supports this activity by establishing support and control of customer test program requests ensuring that tests are conducted to the correct procedure and process. Delivery of high-quality data and observing test standards.

They will support the operation of the test department providing support and direction for the customers test projects and department workflow. They are responsible for supporting the delivery of UUT’s to the test facility in line with EO10022 operational processes and support optimising utilisation of the test beds. The Rotating Machine Test Delivery department supports all JLR engine powertrain products at both Whitley and Gaydon sites and provides support for prototype testing.  The Lead Diagnostic Engineer will have substantial experience in prototype product diagnostics. The role covers powertrain products ICE, EDU driveline systems in end of line build sign 0ff to on facility fault diagnosis.


Key accountabilities and responsibilities :


  • Support delivery of the Technical Specifications (RUR)

  • Control and monitor Work instructions handed to test operations

  • Monitor data quality vis WIS register entries

  • Coach operators and engineers on data quality process and installation technical specification

  • Ensure Installation tracker and reporting is up to date

  • Application of Health and Safety within the facility

  • 5 S’s / TPM and housekeeping in the facility

  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time


What you’ll need :



  • Proven ability to plan, co-ordinate and control own workflow and achieve quality results.

  • Natural problem-solver with proven experience in the calibration, maintenance and repair of complex measurement equipment.

  • Strong knowledge and experience of working in Powertrain test environment, with a knowledge of test facility requirements and specifications.

  • Proven skills in fault finding and resolution, problem analysis and root-cause identification are crucial, as is a methodical, logical approach to work.

  • The ability to validate, prepare and read flow and electrical diagrams.

  • Knowledge of company Health and Safety requirements, Risk Assessment, COSHH and MSDS.

  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency to produce plans, presentations, graphs, processes and SPL documents.

  • Commitment, flexibility, self-motivation, robust clear communication.

  • Background in quality standards and their importance.

  • A full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualification, 2 years accident free record.

  • Prepared to undertake vocational studies and attain a NVQ Level 4 qualification.




  • Experience in the operation of data acquisition and automation systems, i.e. VETS, XOne, Puma, Adapt, Cameo, Combustion Analysis Systems.

  • Knowledge of emissions equipment, daily system checks i.e. Horiba MEXA 7000 and 9000 systems, CVS-7200, MEXA-2000 SPCS, DLS-9100, MEXA-1400QL-NX, Cambustion DMS 500 and AVL Particle Counter.

  • Experience in Cycle Simulation and Hybrid Test Bed Operation.

  • Experience in using test cell instrumentation; specialised reference equipment and external measurement devices, working at dedicated calibration stations, cells and rig.

  • Experience of operating a modern automated test cell; including running, modifying and confirmation of test conditions and alarm and outlier conditions.

  • Ability to use INCA diagnostic software.

  • Direct experience of Instrumentation calibration processes and Engine Build practices.

  • A detailed understanding of electrical/mechanical measurement techniques.

  • Knowledge of data checking through Concerto package.
