The traction drive (motor and power inverter) is a key component in Jaguar Landrover’s electrification strategy. Traction Electrical Machines team is responsible for the design and advanced development &/or selection of traction electric machines for our electrification programmes. As the Concept Manager for eMachines you will initiate and lead the development of new technologies and standards, ensuring that Jaguar Landrover applies world class eMachines for its Electrified products. In addition you will support the team with technical resolution for key issues and sign off our applications as being technically fit for production.


A detailed understanding of the electric motor design its operation and applied technologies are needed in order to define/select eMachines with operating characteristics and technologies optimised for the intended application, ensuring their robustness and minimising cost.


Traction Electric Machines is currently engaging in active development of eMachines as candidates for future vehicle programs. Electric machines are either being developed in-house or specified in collaboration with suppliers for future PHEV as well as BEV applications. It is also engaged in the Development and Release of Traction eMachines in current vehicle programmes, including plug-in hybrids and EVs


The Concept Manager eMachines will lead the development of new technologies and standards, particularly

  • The multi-physics design (incl. new technology selection and specification, electromagnetic, mechanical and thermal analysis) of eMachines, as well as aspects of development (requirements capture, adherence to CCDS, Functional and Durability Testing)
  • Effective coordination of work with other Teams, especially the, eDU & Transmissions, Inverter, Manufacturing and Purchasing Groups, external professional bodies / Universities and Technology suppliers will be required.
  • Defining Jaguar Landrover Standards for eMachine
  • Coordination of system level issues between HV components and E Machines



It is essential that you have significant knowledge & practical experience of electromagnetic, mechanical and thermal design of electric machines (incl. design, component specification and assembly, cooling methodologies and implementation)

You will also possess:

  • Significant knowledge & practical experience in the application of eMachine technologies (hairpin designs, magnetic layouts, insulation materials)
  • Knowledge of challenges associated with integrating Machine component designs (the eDrive in particular) into mass vehicle production systems.
  • Project management, Leadership and planning skills are essential, along with good teamwork and communication skills.  Strategic thinking is also essential.
  • Significant experience of D&R and Quality processes including 8D, FMEA, and PCS, as well as requirements and standards writing.
