The Opportunity

The purpose of this role is to work on the design, development, testing and introduction of new systems and components/commodities. The role will also deliver the commodity plan to quality, cost, timeline and lead on the technical content and integrity of specific components and systems across specific programmes.  Lead technical issue resolution on complex problems involving many stakeholders and systems.


Key Performance Indicators

  • Successful Component lifecycle management of multiple commodities and suppliers to programme timing gateways
  • Experience in design and delivery of Security systems in automotive applications namely Passive Entry Systems
  • Technical Issue resolution of complex systems including wireless access systems
  • Technical data submission for Sourcing of new components i.e. specification generation of new system to release for quotation to global supply base.
  • Releasing of components to programme timing via WERS system
  • Leadership experience of managing a small team through technical challenges
  • Able to be self-sufficient and generate a work plan with little or no supervision when presented with an end goal.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Deliver the commodity plan to quality, cost and time, including maintaining the Worldwide Engineering Release System
  • Deliver the Engineering Advanced Product Quality Planning deliverables
  • Assist in the Management of Change Requests, expenditure forecasting and the relevant supplier teams in support of delivery of the programme milestones
  • Work on vehicle test plans, including detailed planning of test and development stages through to sign off and support Engineering test teams with rectification of issues
  • Assist in the resolution of issues with component engineering and vehicle attribute teams to develop designs that meet targets
  • Ensure all appropriate Jaguar Land Rover standards are met through-out design maturation
  • Provide input into new feature development
  • Ensure all programme design solutions meet:
  • Programme targets for cost and weight
  • Legal regulations and Requirements Management & Design Verification documentation
  • Optical Quality and Premium Consumer Product Audit requirements
  • Keep all Module documentation up to date including meeting minutes
  • Foundation and Programme Design analysis documents
  • Quality history and bill of design
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested


Key Interactions

  • Lead team huddles on technical issues to generate work plan R&R split and monitor progress against this.
  • Daily contact and information provision to local Module Project Engineers and Programme teams
  • Working closely with fellow team members to combine knowledge and split tasks to gain completion
  • Work with the vehicle test team to ensure all component testing is completed
  • Regular feed-back to Security Systems Group Leader to ensure component status is known
  • Contact with others areas such as STA, Finance, ERS, Purchasing and Packaging etc as required.




Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Knowledge of JLR security systems including Passive Entry and Passive Start
  • Evidence of technical issue resolution in complex automotive systems
  • 2+ Years’ experience of leading and testing Passive Entry Systems
  • Experienced in the requirements of the JLR GPDS process and the deliverables within it.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills
  • Confident outlook and willing to self-motivate and self-start tasks in order to gain momentum
  • Happy to work individually or as part of a team
  • Technical experience either through education or work
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the team



  • Knowledge of RF communication methodologies and experience working with these.
  • A good working knowledge of product creation & delivery, change control, product definition and change management processes
  • Experience of CANalyser or similar / other diagnostic tools
  • Experience in automotive vehicle component integration.
