POSITION:  Corporate Counsel - Privacy & Employment Law

JLRNA is looking for a dynamic privacy attorney with employment law experience to join our legal team.  The attorney will be reporting to the General Counsel and be based in our corporate headquarters in Mahwah, NJ.  The Corporate Counsel will specialize in Privacy Law and Employment Law and will be responsible for advising the US and Canada businesses on all aspects of privacy and employment laws. The role will closely partner with the relevant business teams to address the shifting privacy and employment legal and regulatory landscape and provide business-practical counsel and guidance. 

 

What you will be doing:

 

  • Providing legal support and counsel on all U.S. and Canadian privacy matters, including state, federal, and international compliance   

  • Providing legal support to Human Resources and other employees of JLRNA and JLR Canada regarding employment laws, policies, compliance, training, ERISA/benefits issues

  • Drafting policies and procedures based on applicable laws and regulations and best practices relating to personal information

  • Monitoring existing and proposed U.S. and Canadian privacy and electronic communication laws and regulations, evaluate the potential impact on the business, and proactively propose advisable business processes or practices

  • Supporting business functions in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. on the mitigation of data privacy risks

  • Drafting and reviewing various commercial contracts (including service provider agreements and other supplier agreements, data protection/data sharing agreements, confidentiality agreements, etc.)

  • Advising and training departments on privacy and employment law best practices

  • Refining of existing policies and practices with a focus on continuous improvement

  • Managing litigation as needed for the areas of privacy and employment

  • Performing other duties as required

 

What you will need: 

 

  • An outstanding collaborator who can manage multiple tasks and work across various functions in a business-practical manner
  • Ability to work well with a small and tightly-knit legal team

  • Must have the ability to juggle different legal areas and projects and to prioritize tasks, while planning and accomplishing objectives in a timely manner

  • 6+ years of experience as a licensed attorney is essential

  • Previous automotive experience is a plus

  • Prior in-house legal experience is preferred but not required

  • Must remain flexible to respond to the changing business requirements and must perform tasks in a hands-on manner with minimal oversight and reliance upon outside counsel

  • Must have excellent judgment to resolve complex issues efficiently and effectively, as well as demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Must be comfortable presenting and interacting with all levels of the organization.

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and a JD from an accredited law school

  • Must be a member of the bar in a US state in good standing

 

 

Schedule:  Hybrid Ways of Working (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday - office days; Wednesday and Friday - choice days)
