The Design Technical Team supports both Jaguar & Land Rover Design studios, co-reporting into the Design Directors. Design Technical Team comprises of 3 main groups: Studio Engineering, Surfacing & Cubing. This position relates to the Studio Engineering team whose purpose is to ensure that the integrity of the design is maintained whilst delivering a feasible vehicle. The process is managed via the Design Gateway (DG) Feasibility deliverables. 


Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities :


  • Leading the studio engineering activities for an interior, exterior of full car-line programme, typically leading a team of up to four through the Design Gateway Feasibility deliverables.
  • Responsible for generating/driving the creation of feasible engineering schemes in CAD to deliver aesthetic design leadership – including generating creative alternatives to initial proposals
  • Liaising closely with the CoCs and attribute teams to ensure their input to the development of the design aesthetic is understand and interrogated to ensure the Design Vision is delivered.
  • Prioritising and setting the agenda for the Design PAT - the key JLR forum for design issue resolution (attended by VPD and Chief Designer). Confidently and clearly presenting issues and proposed feasibility solutions at this meeting and guiding the rest of the team e.g. advising on when an issue should be escalated to DPAT rather than a feasibility meeting, overseeing preparation of presentation material
  • Responsible for running 'Clay Feasibility' meetings
  • Provide proactive input into the design team to improve the aesthetic while ensuring manufacturability to deliver high perceived quality
  • Responsible for achieving and tracking against the Design Feasibility Gateway deliverables (formerly the Feasibility Checkpoint process)
  • Responsible for the adherence of the design themes to legal requirements, programme assumptions, internal standards (e.g. Trustmark, SDS) and attribute requirements




You’ll need the ability to think creatively to solve feasibility issues

You’ll need an extensive working experience within an Engineering environment delivering vehicle package, system, component, or attribute driven technical solutions

You’ll need CATIA V5/V6 & TCE

You’ll need people skills - a critical elements of the role is the resolution of feasibility issues therefore the ability to work in a cross functional team is key

You’ll need the ability to apply business acumen and a customer driven mind-set to deliver Design leadership

You’ll need broad knowledge of the Design Department and Process

You’ll need strong communication skills with people of all levels and expertise; notably Design and Engineering

You’ll need experience of PCDS / Agile engineering delivery process

You’ll need proven ability to work to deadlines and prioritise your own workload

You’ll need experience with Microsoft Office applications, notably Excel, Word, PowerPoint

You’ll need a relevant degree or equivalent working experience preferred
