JOB TITLE: Embedded Software Specialist

The successful candidate for the above role will retain their current employer, i.e. if you are a Jaguar employee you will continue to be administered on the Jaguar grading structure with the associated terms and conditions. If you are currently on BAC or EMC terms, you will retain your current employer but will transfer to a JLR contract and the associated terms and conditions. 

 

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Embedded Software Specialist. You’ll have experience designing, implementing and verifying embedded high integrity software systems, to address the challenge of “How do we combine methods and technologies with Agile principles and ways-of-working, to allow us to design high-integrity embedded software more robustly and deterministically?”

 

As an Embedded Software Specialist, you will be responsible for the technical leadership of a new Agile Software Engineering Delivery Framework, including ways of working, standards, processes and guidance for our EVA Continuum platform and you will be expected to be hands-on with development, definition and documentation.

 

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the direction on Agile, MVP driven software development practices, utilising own high-integrity software development experience, the support of Agile coaches within the Group and other members of the squad.
  • Consider the wider industry direction, technology strategies and global alignment in the development of embedded software centric embedded systems, for future autonomous connected vehicles.
  • Design and develop software design patterns that meet the strategic direction of our future platform.
  • Develop and support design and verification processes to relevant industry standards.
  • Understand and exploit trends in software design and implementation, relevant to the safety critical community and design safe, reusable and deterministic software patterns and approaches.
  • Ability to assess the software development tools and (when necessary) support tool qualification.
  • Ensure continuous improvement through effective lessons learned, knowledge capture and process development compliant with ASPICE, ISO26262, ISO29119 and external UNECE Regulations.
  • Establish and deploy best technical practice; knowledge transfer in terms of formal training and mentoring
  • Technical leadership for Embedded Software Engineering within the Software Delivery Framework
  • Leading the technical development, including sprint showcase demonstrations for the Software Engineering Delivery Framework, including improvement activities with technical disciplines across the business.

 

 

Essential:

 

  • Experience of writing MISRA C code, assembler code and debugging with GDB using map & objdump files
  • Experience with developing safety-critical, software centric control systems in compliance with automotive, aerospace or similar industry standards (e.g. ISO26262, DO-178, etc.)
  • Experience in Software development using Simulink – design, integration and simulation.
  • Specification of complex software systems design through requirement capture, modelling, requirement definition, traceability and requirement verification.
  • Software verification experience in requirements-based testing and modified condition/decision coverage
  • Understands modular embedded software architectures, middleware and real-time operating systems.
  • Experience in working with embedded software and hardware suppliers to meet the system requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to confer complex technical and procedural topics in a clear and concise form, confidently presenting with senior stakeholders
  • In depth understanding of safety-critical design principles / processes that ensure robust, safe systems
  • Experience working in Agile and Scrum software development methodologies.

 

 

Desirable:

 

  • Delivery of complex packages of work with accountability for technical leadership
  • Prior knowledge/experience of ISO15288, ISO12207, ISO29119, ISO26262 and/or ISO21434
  • Prior knowledge/experience working with software Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge of software compilers, compiler libraries (e.g. libc), linker scripts, etc.
  • Experience in real-time operating systems, Free-RTOS, Safe-RTOS, etc.
  • Experience in driver development and functional verification for hardware timers, memory resources and mapping, communication protocols and stacks.
  • Experience working in multi-discipline teams (Electrical, Mechanical, Control and Hardware) and have a sound understanding of interdisciplinary interaction.
