WHAT TO EXPECT

The primary purpose of the role is to support the Research and Innovation activity with the design and prototyping of hardware and electronics to support proof of concept prototypes.

The Research and Innovation team, based at University of Warwick, focus on the development of new innovative technologies that allow JLR to position and deliver vehicles that surpass our customers’ expectations. The team develops technology and features to increase their technology readiness levels such that they can then be taken on by core engineering to develop into production.

The Research organisation works around key research themes; Modern Luxury, Sustainability and Connected & Autonomous Vehicles.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Engineer for the Hard Electronics with Research and Innovation.
  • Support requests for Hardware Electronics from across Research and Innovation.
  • Advise Research teams on feasibility and capability electronics and control systems. 
  • Convert project requirements to electronic system requirements 
  • Electronics design, component selection, hardware/PCB design 
  • Manufacture, build and integration of prototype systems. 
  • Use of in-house manufacturing facilities for prototype PCB boards and enclosures. 
  • Software development – both firmware and desktop/mobile based GUI interfaces 
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED


As Hardware Electronics Engineer, you will need to have experience working within a technical, engineering organisation. Experience working within a prototype, advanced engineering organisation on low volume manufacturing projects. To hold a formal qualification within Electronic Hardware engineering or a similar subject such as a degree or apprenticeship.


ESSENTIAL

  • Experience in circuit design, schematic capture and component selection 
  • Experience in PCB layout and design for manufacture 
  • Experience in SMT hand assembly down to 0603 components 
  • Experience in firmware development for a range of microcontrollers 
  • Competency in C/C++, git version control 

 

 

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience in a Research role in engineering or automotive environment
  • A working knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems and development processes, such as those used at Jaguar Land Rover
  • Previous experience of collaborating with multiple partners across JLR or equivalent.
