WELCOME TO OUR NEW EMPLOYABILITY HUB
At JLR we’re invested in you. We want to help you to achieve the exceptional.
Our employability hub is a newly created area, focused on providing you the best support, guidance and handy hints and tips. Created by the Early Careers Recruitment Team, we’ve done this to help find the career that’s right for you. We care about your personal growth and unlocking your potential, so we hope the below resources can help increase your knowledge of our assessment process, our Creators Code which you’ll be assessed against, and how we can help you along the way.
We care about creating equal opportunities for all and hope our new hub can provide you with the motivation and preparation you need to apply with confidence and achieve exceptional results throughout the assessment process. Good luck!
REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS
As part of your assessment, it’s important to let us know if you need any additional support. JLR are committed to providing equal opportunities to anyone who wants to work here. We want to make sure you receive a fair shot at securing a career with us, so please tell our team how they can best support your needs.
During the application stage of the recruitment process, you will be able to let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments. There will be a ‘free text’ box for you to confirm what adjustments you require/usually receive at school, college or university; an example of a reasonable adjustment would be extra time for the online assessments, information to be presented to you differently or for us to simply be aware of your needs. There will also be opportunity throughout the assessment process, to connect with our recruitment team – contact details are below.
Creators' Code - What we look for
Each organisation will have their own specific behaviours and values they look for in potential candidates. At JLR. this is our Creators' Code. This code of behaviours is integral to our ability to achieve our vision as an organisation. It provides a framework to how we act in the workplace and how we treat our fellow colleagues. Our Creators' Code inspires a mindset that will encourage collaboration, understanding, continued learning and a customer-focus to help us achieve high-performing outcomes for JLR.
CUSTOMER LOVE
We love our CUSTOMERS
Customers are usually perceived as people who purchase a product or a service. However, they could also be people who take an interest in a project that you are delivering or who are affected by its results. Think about who might be our customers at JLR. How would you put our customers’ needs at heart of what you are doing? How would you ensure you met their expectations? Think about when you were a customer yourself. What made you remember your experience? What could have been improved?
Skill to develop
Demonstrate your motivation
Customer love – a passion for our business and what we do
Showing your motivation for a job might seem simple, right? But knowing how to do this in an interview or workplace scenario might not always come that easy. Motivation can be a deal-breaker for whether you’ll be successful. At JLR we want you to be passionate about our future, products and our customers and the part you can play in delivering the most desirable, sustainable and luxurious vehicles of the future. Not a car expert? Not a problem! We’re looking for you to be passionate about our brand and what we deliver, you’re not expected to know everything at this stage.
Hear from our team on how you can demonstrate your motivation.
UNITY
We work as ONE
Recognising each other's individuality is what truly drives a healthy environment in which diversity of perceptions is leveraged. Reflect on a time when you were part of a project, a team, or simply a group of people. What made you feel included and what have you done to make others feel like they belong? How was decision making approached within the group? Think about a time when a decision was made that you were not fully confident in – how did you approach the situation and what was the result? Do you wish you would have handled it differently? What were your learnings from it?
Skill to develop
Building Relationships within the workplace
Unity – networking and collaborating
We are focused on unity and working as one. Without this, we wouldn’t be able to build the cars of tomorrow, today. At the centre of our success is our people, the collaboration and relationships that make us who we are as a business. Taking the time to develop effective relationships can play a key part in your future.
INTEGRITY
We speak the TRUTH
Being open to different perspectives does not mean leaving your own behind. Being yourself while being respectful and kind allows everyone to express themselves without fear of judgement. Remember a time when you made a mistake while being part of a project team or group of people. How did you address it? How would you describe the team or group environment? Is there anything you feel you could have done differently?
Skill to develop
Building your personal brand
Integrity – how do you show up at work as your authentic self?
Coming to work as your authentic self is important to us as a business. At JLR we’re passionate about diversity and inclusion. We want to celebrate the unique qualities that are personal to you. Your personal brand reflects the combination of your skills, experiences and values that make you, you.
GROWTH
We progress TOGETHER
Growth is a mindset running on a constant desire to learn and improve, and feedback is crucial in monitoring its progress. However, as we all know, feedback must be constructive and positive to ensure that progress takes place. When was the last time you received or have given feedback to someone? Reflect on both positive and constructive feedback – what were the challenges? How did it make you feel and how did you approach the conversation? What was the environment/medium chosen for the conversation? What do you wish you could have done differently? What happened after the feedback was delivered?
IMPACT
We are PURPOSE orientated
Having an impact does not only mean delivering big, visible results. Impact can be found in taking responsibility for one's actions and for delivering on time, striving to do better, and always seeking to collaborate and share ideas. It’s about getting involved and driving the change, not just being a passenger (pun intended). When you play your part and inspire others to do the same, that impact multiplies, and the results speak for themselves. When was the last time you've made an impact? Think about what had made you realise that your actions have been impactful – was it a piece of feedback, feeling appreciated, or the result itself. Remember to think about what you specifically were responsible for in this scenario.
Acknowledge both the destination and the ride while reflecting on what went well and the result. Take time to reflect on your learnings – what could have been done better? What could you apply in the future?

Before you apply
Before you apply
- We understand that thinking about the beginning or next steps in your career is an important decision. Find an organisation with a purpose and set of values that align to your own. This is just as important as the role you are looking to applying to.
- As you begin to start your job search explore the key attributes that matter to you and what will be important when you start a new role. This might be a great development training programme or the rewards and benefits package, but whatever it is, take the time to think it through.
- Research - Find out all you can about the industry you are looking for a career in. Having an understanding of upcoming industry trends and what the future may look like can help you demonstrate to the organisation how you intend to play your part. It also helps in your decision-making process and identifying what your future career could entail within the industry.
- Did we mention research? You’ll need to research the company too. Explore both their website and other sources such as news articles, social media and industry journals. Take the time to explore the organisations strategy and future ambitions. Most organisations will look for you to understand this and demonstrate your knowledge within an interview. This will help you to gain a well-rounded understanding of the organisation, the type of roles that exist. At JLR we’re reimaging the future, a strategy that will realise our vision to be proud creators of the most desirable brands. With ambitions such as becoming carbon net zero by 2039 and the renaissance of Jaguar as a pure-electric brand from 2025 it genuinely is an exciting time to join us.
Making your application
Making your application
- As you’ll only be able to make one application per our recruitment cycle at JLR (September – March) take the time to discover which role and pathway is most suited to your skills, knowledge and importantly what you are most passionate about.
- Eligibility – The highest proportion of candidates fall down right at the start by not checking the eligibility criteria of our programmes. This can include whether the role sponsors for international students, and what qualifications (GCSE, A Level or Degree depending on the level of role). Ensure you add all your qualifications including predicted qualifications, and check they are on track to complete by the time the programme commences.
- Be honest – we will check the details of your application. It’s important to be transparent and build trust with the organisation you hope to join.
- We want you to demonstrate your passion to work for us and the role you are applying to. Within the application you will have a free text question to show us your motivations. This is crucial, don’t just add one word or one sentence, really take the time to tell us why we would want to hire you.
- Check over your application – ensure you’ve completed all the essential fields and that you’ve filled in your details correctly.
Completing your online assessments
Completing your online assessments
- Our process includes a Situational Judgement Test, Aptitude Tests and a Personality Assessment. You can find out more about our tests above.
- Find yourself a quiet space to undertake your assessment. Create an environment where you can focus with minimal distractions, so you can give your best answers possible. This might be at home, at your educational establishment or at a local library, for example.
- Practice. Practice. Practice. Click here to enter the practice test area. Each assessment at each organisation will vary and we recognise this can be a nerve-wracking process. Take the time to explore a range of online practice tests to help you experience the process and what you might expect.
- Ensure you read through the question/s and scenarios carefully during your assessment. Don’t rush yourself, it's easy to make mistakes.
- Be confident in yourself. Try not to overthink and take some time to calm your nerves.
- Answer honestly. Remember we want to understand more about you and the way you work.
Preparing for your Assessment Centre
Preparing for your Assessment Centre
- Ahead of your assessment day familiarise yourself with the behaviours the company will be assessing you against. At JLR we assess you against our Creators’ Code.
- Research the organisation. This is essential. Take the time to understand our Reimagine strategy and vision for the future, our products and services and what’s happening within the wider industry.
- Take the time to review the role you applied for and consider what examples you want to share within your interview. You might want to consider workplace experiences or examples from school, college or university, including experiences such as volunteering, for example. You might even want to consider writing these down and bringing these to your interview. An interview isn’t a memory test, it’s a chance to showcase your potential.
- When attending a virtual assessment be sure to test your technology to reduce any impact but don’t worry, we know technology isn't perfect. You might want to check your internet connection, audio and your microphone to ensure they are working. But remember if you do face any issues on the day remain calm. We understand. Just try turning it off and on again.
- Let us know if you need any adjustments to support you to perform at your best. We want you to succeed and letting us know your need for adjustments won’t reflect negatively on you. We’re here to make things as smooth as possible.
On the day of your Assessment Centre
On the day of your Assessment Centre
- We know that assessments can be nerve-wracking. Keep calm and carry on. The assessors on the day want you to perform your best and are on hand to make sure all goes well.
- Arrive early to your assessment – even if this is virtual, logging in a few minutes ahead can help to put you at ease and get you in a space ready to start.
- Grab a glass of water before you start your assessment. If you feel nervous or unsure of any questions, having a glass of water can enable you to take a moment to compose yourself.
- Ask the assessor to repeat the question if you’re unsure or to rephrase it for you.
- Come with your passion. Organisations want to see that you are genuinely excited about them and the role that you’ve applied for. The interview is your chance to demonstrate why you are the right fit for the role and that you’ve done your research.
- When answering any questions during the assessment centre using the STARRY technique can be a perfect way to share your example. See next tab.
